    pariliment passed an new verion of the sugar and mollases act which was due to expire soon.
    This hurt the British West Indies market in molasses and sugar and the market for rum, which the colonies had been producing in quantity with the cheaper French molasses.

    The colonies suffered a constant shortage of currency with which to conduct trade. There were no gold or silver mines and currency could only be obtained through trade as passed by Great Britain.
