    In 1776 Thomas Paine wrote "Common Sense" which displayed the American independence from England and therefore a patriot.The pamplet influenced many to be involoved to fight for independence.Lived from 1737-1809.

    He was the king of England during the American Revolution and therefore a loyalist. The British Government was in great debt after war so he increased taxes.He imposed the taxes, yet when the colonies declared their independence he went into one of his episodes of insanity. It was thought by many he was unfit for his position. Lived from 1738-1820.

    Jefferson nver fought in the war, but wrote of the colonists' struggles and opinions making him a patriot. Duirng the war he was elected governor of Virginia and later appointed as a minister to France once the war has ended.Lived form 1743-1826.

    The British government placed this line in place to prohbit colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonist defied the prohibition and streamed westard beyond the boundary given by the British. This lead to the alliance between the British and the Native Americancs during the revolution.

    This act was created by the prime minister, Lord George Grenville. The act placed taxes on sugars and other luxurious items. It only was appled to the merchants who bought the items. The purpose of this tax was to raise money for the crown and to enforce the Navigation Act to stop smuggling. This act lead to the colonial suspicion of the British taking away their rights'.

    The Stamp Act was passed by Parliament that required revenue stamps on most printed papers in the colonies. The act lead to the formation of the Sons and Daughters of Liberty that intimidated the tax agents. Although boycotting against the British imports was the most effective way of protest.

    This "massacre" was between a patriot mob and 8 British soliders.The result of this massacre was only 5 deaths, but was exaggerated and influenced the patriots to get riled up over it and influence the acts leading up to the revolution.

    The colonists continued to refuse the buy British tea due to the Tea Act that was passed in 1773. A shipment of tea from the East India Company arrived at Boston where a group of Bostons colonists disguised themselves as Native Americans and dumped 342 chest of tea into the harbor. This event showed the justifiable defense of liberty for colonists and showed they could fight back.

    The Batlle of Lexington and Concord took place on April 19,1775 in and near Boston.The British win the battle but the patriots gained confidence.This battle was significant because it was the first battle of the war.

The Americans claimed to have one due to their success in inflicting heavy loss to the British army. This battle increased the confidence of the American people and displayed that they held enough power to defeat/damage the British.

    The Battle of Saratoga lasted for 18 days from in Saratoga County, NY. The British surrendered convincing the French government to formally recognize the colonist’s cause and enter the war as their ally. The ally between the French and Americans strengthened the Americans, leading to there victory.

    The Battle of King's Mountain was a victory for the Patriot militia in South Carolina. The battle made it become evident to the British that the American colonists in the South would not back the British.

    This was the last major battle of the revolution in 1781 and lasting approximatelt 2 months. The battle took lce on the shores of Chesapeake Bay in Yorktown,Virginia. With the assitance of the strong French navy Washington was able to force the surrender of the British army.
