Founding of Jamestown
Jamestown, Virginia was founded by Virginia Company of London, and was the first successful British colony in America. This was important because the success of the New World caused many people to immigrate to America and populate it. -
House of Burgesses
The House of Burgesses was the first form of government in the colonies, and was a represenative government. -
Founding of Plymouth Colony and Mayflower Compact
Plymouth Colony was founded by the seperasits (namely John Smith) with the intent to create a colony with religious freedom that they did not have in England. -
Pequot War
The Pequot was a result of English men raiding Pequot villages and taking their land by force. -
King Philip’s War
King Philip's war was between the Puritan Colonies and their Native American allies against the Wampanoag Tribe lead by Metacomet (referred to by the english as King Phillip). -
Bacon’s Rebellion
Bacon's Rebellion was a rebellion lead by Nathaniel Bacon and was meant to usurp the Governor of Virginia, William Berkeley because he refused to retaliate against Native American Raids, but was actually about a power play by Bacon. This lead to increased racism towards black slaves. -
Salem Witch Trials
The Salem Witch Trials were a series of trials in which women of the Massachussets Bay Colony were convicted of being witches and were hung under extremely unorthadox reasoning. -
French and Indian War
This war was over territorial disputes. France and Britian were involved along with their colonies in America. -
Quatering Act
The Quartering act was a set of laws created by the British Parliment in order to gain control back of the colonies. These laws forced citizens to let troops into their homes when asked. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a heavy increase on certain items in the colonies. The point of the act was to pay off the French and Indian War, but the colonists resisted it because they had no say in Parliment. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre occured when British troops fired upon violent colonist protesters, killing five. This lead to outrage in the colonies and was a major stepping stone towards the revolution. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was created in order to aid the struggling British East Indian Trading Company by allowing them to sell their Tea in America, but with heavy taxes on the tea sold to colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was lead by the Sons of Liberty against taxes imposed by England. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws created by Britian in an attempt to try and restrain the colonies, created as a direct response to the Boston Tea Party. These laws only served to further infuriate the colonists however. -
Lexington and Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the American Revolution. The british troops forced the colonist militia back to Concord, where five hundred of the militia fought off three british companies. -

The Decleration of Independence was a document written by the American founding fathers declaring their independence from Britian and laying out the principles of the country. -

The Second Great Awakening led to an increase in protestant christians, especially in the Methodist and Baptist churches. -
Texas Independence
Texan Independence was made official by the Texan Decleration of Independence, breaking off from Mexico. -
Mexican-American War
The Mexican-American War started after Texas gained it's indepenedence then joined the Union. Mexico still took claim over Texas, and went to war for it. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was a peace offering to end the Mexican-American war, proposed by Mexico. The Treaty stated that Mexico would give America land that included current day California, Nevada, Arizona, western portions of Colorado, Wyoming, and settled on a boundary for Texas. The Americans accepted the treaty. -
Dawes Act
This Act gave the President the power to break up Native American land for individual Native Americans. -
Wounded Knee
The Wounded Knee Massacre was the last battle of the American Indian Wars. The white calvary members massacred the tribe, including the women and children. This event was a big stepping stone towards Native American Assimilation. -
Spanish-American War
The Spanish-American War was a conflict between America and Spain over Cuban Independence. America went to war with Spain, allied by Cuba, and won in 100 days. Cuba gained it's independence, and America gained Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico. -
Founding of NAACP
The NAACP was founded, which lead to more rights for black people and fought for more equality. -

The Harlem Renaissance was a period of advancement for blacks, and they started to reform their image. During this time, they created blues music, created new art, and many other things to improve and reform their culture.
