  • Sherman Antitrust Act

    The sherman Antitrust Act was the first measure passed by the U.S. Congress to prohibit trusts. So that there would still be competition between companies. And to make sure that one company didn't control all of one buisness.
  • Lucas Gusher at Spindletop

    The Lucas gusher at Spindletop was the first major gusher of the Texas Oil Boom. George W. O'Brien, George W. Carroll, and Pattillo Higgins of Gladys City Oil where the ones to drill on Spindletop. This site produced about 100,000 barrels of oil a day.
  • First Flight

    The Wright brothers where the first to fly a powered aircraft, flying an airplane that they designed and built themselves. The first successful flight was piloted by Orville Wright in Kitty Hawk, N.C. it lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. Before they discovered flight the Wright brothers where bicycle retailers/ manufacturers.
  • California Water Wars

    A series of conflicts between the city of Los Angeles and farmers and ranchers in the Owens Valley of Eastern California. An Aquaduct was created by William Mulholland to bring water into California from Owens Valley. Over time Owens Valley dried up and agrivated the farmers who then tried to destroy it.
  • Ford's Assembly Line

    Henry Ford's Model T was the first car to be built by an assembly line. The assembly line was an effiecent way to manufacture cars with there only being 84 distinct steps. Ford reduced assembly time from about 15 minutes to 5, and the required workforce decreased from 29 to 14.
  • The U.S. Enters WW1

    On April 6th, 1917 the U.S. joined its allies Britain, France, and Russia to fight in WW1. Both Native Americans and African Americans served during the war. In total there where over 16 million Americans killed in WW1.
  • 18th Amendment

    The 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibited the manufacture, sale, transport, import, or export of alcoholic beverages. Upon ratification of the amendment by the states, Congress voted its approval in October 1919, and enacted it into law as the National Prohibition Act of 1920.
