    South Carolina leaves the nation due to slavery. They wanted to be their own country. Other states followed.

    Fort Sumter in South Carolina was attacked by the Confederates and this began the Civil War.

    General Lee surrenders to General Grant making all the states be one country again and slaves free.

    5 days after Robert E. Lee surrendered the South and the Civil War ended, John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln at the Ford Theater in Washington D.C.

    Henry Ford used an assembly line to make lots of cars quickly, in a exact order and efficiently. This saved lots of money and made the cars affordable.
  • 1929 - The Stock Market Crashed

    A bunch of people started to panic so they sold their stocks, causing companies to lose their money and the stock market to crash. This caused a domino effect where people lost their jobs, and lost their money. Government policies had to be changed to protect this from happening again.
  • 1941 - Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor

    The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. They killed a lot of soldiers and sunk a lot of boats. This caused the United States to fight back, so they entered WWII.
  • 1945 - Atomic Bombs in Japan

    The United States made a giant atomic bomb that was so massive it took out entire cities. They dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. This ended WWII. It also caused all the countries in the world to look at warfare differently and make new rules about how we can attack each other.
  • 1955 - Rosa Parks won't give up

    Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus. It caused everyone who was African American to boycott using the bus. That boycott started the Civil Rights Movement and caused the end of segregation for the African Americans.
  • 1969 - Man on the Moon

    Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. He flew for the United States. This was a big accomplishment for space exploration.
  • 1989 - Berlin Wall comes down

    The Berlin wall was separtating East and West Germany. The East side was communist, so when the wall was destroyed it helped to stop communism in Germany and it was the end of the Cold War.
  • Attacks On America

    The Taliban and Bin Laden fly 4 airplanes into important buildings in America. 2 flew into the World Trade Center, 1 into the Pentagon and the last one crashed before it could go into a building.
  • Bin Laden Hunt Begins

    The US Army goes to Afghanistan to find Bin Laden.
  • Hurricane Katrina Disaster

    Louisana discovered that they had major weaknesses in disaster preparedness when Hurricane Katrina landed. It led to reforms in emergency response and infrastructure planning.
  • Rise of Social Media

    Social Media changed how people stay connected with each other. Influencers became popular. Lots of information could be communicated both true and false. More concerns were raised about security and privacy.
  • Great Recession

    The recession caused lots of job losses, the housing market collapsed, and overall, the economy was not doing well. The good part was that the government made some financial reforms.
  • Bin Laden Killed

    Killing Bini Laden was a major milestone in the War on Terror. People were grateful because it symbolized justice for the 9/11 attacks.

    It caused a global health crisis that disrupted daily life, economies, and education, and reshaped public health and work habits worldwide.
