Albert Einstein is Born
Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany to Pauline and Hermann Einstein on March 14, 1879. Einstein's father was a merchant, and the family often went from one extreme to the next, either being very poor for a certain amount of time to being very rich for a while. In school, Einstein's teachers often thought he was mentally handicapped because he was unable to speak fluently, and was much slower than others in talking and understanding things. (Dank, 17) -
Einstein Graduates E.T.H. Zurich
In 1900, Albert Einstein graduated E.T.H. Zurich, a college in Switzerland with a degree in physics. This college helped kickstart Einstein in his career as a physicist. At the university, Einstein developed a lot of his knowledge and his time there helped Einstein to develop the Theory of Relativity, E=mc2 in 1905. His theory helped explain how energy and mass are interchangeable and are based off of each other.

Panama Canal is Built
From 1903 to 1914 the Panama Canal was built. The canal allowed ships to travel from the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific without having to go around the Southern tip of South America, and the Strait of Magellan. This was built by the United States and allowed countries and merchants to sail across the two oceans in a shorter time and distance then around the southern tip. Einstein Marries His First Wife
On January 6, 1903 Albert Einstein married his first wife Milena Maric. Albert and Milena had the first child later in 1903, who they gave away for adoption. They later had two sons and had a nice life together until 1919, when they got divorced. Milena was partially traumatized and Albert agreed to give her the money he would receive if he won the nobel prize. When he did win in 1921, as promised he gave the money to Milena. World War I Starts
World War I was started over political tensions in Europe and was completely started once Germany declared war on Russia because Russia was expanding too far according to Germany. World War I was responsible for many deaths and the war lasted for four years. The U.S. didn't originally want to enter the war, but after Germany said they would sink all ships going into Great Britain, the U.S. entered the war. (History.com Editors, Outbreak of World War I) -
World War I Ends
World War I ended just over 4 years after it began. World War I took the lives of around 21 million people. The war ended with the Treaty of Versailles in which Germany had to agree to take full responsibility for the war, and give up a lot of its land to smaller countries around it. Einstein Divorces His First Wife and Marries His First Cousin
In 1919, Einstein divorced his first wife, and married his first cousin, Elsa Lowenthal in June, two months after he divorced his first wife. Einstein and Elsa had a shaky marriage, with Einstein cheating on her several times and Elsa finding out about them. However, Einstein stayed married to Elsa until she died in 1936 and Einstein never married again. (Bernstein, 127) -
Einstein Vigorously Campaigns Against War
In the 1920's, Einstein campaigned against the possibility of another World War. Einstein was a pacifist and didn't believe in war, so he campaigned across most of Europe and several other parts of the World to try and prevent more wars from happening. Einstein is Awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics
In 1921 Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics of his contributions to science and physics. Einstein won the Nobel prize, mostly due to his discovery of the photoelectric effect and theory of relativity. Einstein's theory of relativity showed how the energy of objects directly related to the mass. Einstein is Awarded the Copley Medal
In 1925, Einstein was awarded the Copley Medal by the Royal Society. The Copley Medal is the oldest surviving scientific award in the world and was awarded to Einstein from his improvements and new understandings of physics. Einstein's new understandings of the theory of relativity and photoelectric effect earned him the Copley Medal four years after he won the nobel prize in physics. (Kondo, 78) -
The Great Depression
From 1929-1939 The Great Depression occurred in the United States and around the world. The Great Depression was a time period when the economy was very bad and everyone was basically poor. It was the worst economic period in history of the world, and affected almost every country and greatly affecting the U.S. The Great Depression occured due to the stock market crash in 1929 that sent wall street into panic, taking out many investors. Einstein moves to the United States
In 1932 Einstein moved to the U.S. Although Einstein mostly believed in science, he was Jewish. Einstein had plans of staying in Germany his whole life, he was unable to because of the Nazi's. Before World war II officially started, Hitler and the nazi's started to persecue people who weren't like them, because Einstein was a very intelligent physic and partially jewish, he was a target of the Nazi's and was forced to flee to the U.S. (Kondo, Albert Einstein and the Theory of Relativity) -
Einstein Writes a Very Famous Letter to President Roosevelt
After Einstein moved to the U.S. he began teaching at the University of Princeton in New Jersey. Einstein then started to help the U.S. in World War II, making explosives and better technology for the troops. Later Einstein wrote one of the most famous letters to President Roosevelt warning him about the dangers of Germany developing an atomic bomb. World War II Starts
World War II started in 1939, a conflict between the Axis and Ally powers. Germany started the conflict because they were in a very bad position economically, and needed a better life. Hitler rose to power in Germany and this led to many people who were different than him dying because he believed they made Germany weak. The U.S. didn't want to enter the war, but after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, the U.S. entered the War on the side of the Allies. (History.com Editors, World War II) -
World War II Ends
On September 2, 1945 Japan officially surrendered ending World War II. Japan finally surrendered after the two atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although the war was over, there was still fighting in Europe until Hitler killed himself and Germany surrendered, ending the war. Einstein Dies in Princeton, New Jersey of Internal Bleeding
On April 4, 1955 Albert einstein died from Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. Simply, Einstein died of internal bleeding from a rupture in his stomach. In 1948, Einstein had undergone surgery for the same reason, but this time Einstein said, "I want to go when I want. It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will do it elegantly." Einstein refused surgery, believing he had lived life and was content with dying. (Biography.com Editors, Albert Einstein)
