In my town, we could help around twenty refugee families to successfully integrate into our community. Because of the town size and population it would be easier to organize accommodation and support for a small number of people. Kozani is not a very large city but it is peaceful, safe, and full of kind inhabitants who are willing to help. -
They could live in a purpose-built camp, for instance park Kouri also offer any vacant, abandonded houses to the refugees. Moreover NGO's can undertake to pay a nominal rent. -
Refugees could also contribute to the local economy by creating or joining small businesses. For example, some of them could work in agriculture, helping in the saffron fields or local farms. Others could open small workshops, such as sewing or handicraft shops, where they could use their skills and creativity. In this way, refugees wouldn’t only support themselves financially but also help the local economy grow and become more diverse. -
Schools can play a very important role in helping refugees feel welcome. Teachers and students could organize Greek language lessons to make communication easier and help them adapt to everyday life. In addition, schools could hold intercultural festivals for instance "antiracist festival" and projects, sharing food, music, and traditions from different countries. Students could also volunteer to collect clothes, books, and school supplies for refugee children. -
Integrating refugees into Kozani would bring many benefits to our community. It would make the local economy stronger by creating new jobs, while also helping local companies grow. At the same time, the multicultural exchange would make our social life richer and teach people to be more open-minded and understanding. Finally, Kozani would gain a positive image as a town of solidarity, showing that kindness and cooperation can truly change society for the better.
