By taking into consideration the example of Tilos, Kozani is able to integrate a number of refuggees that reaches ten percent of its population. This means that our town can welcome around 450. This is a realistic amount of people that can easily be unified with Kozani's residents and live under humane life conditions. -
One of the biggest challenges that refugees have to face when they arrive in a new country is the accommodation. First things first they can find accomodation to purpose built camps especially for people like them. Also refugee families could be offered some abandoned houses that are found in our town. Lastly, some residents could open their homes in order to host refugees for a short period of time, until a more secure solution is found. -
Rfeugees also need to be provided a job so that they can be financialy independant. Kozani is famous for its sufran cultivations. This means that refugees can work as farmers. Moreover, they can easily find a work position to a local store, restaurant, work as a postman, delivery man or even grant their services as a cleaner or as a housekeeper. -
Our school is willing to help refugees in many ways. First of all, we can organise awareness campaigns and projects, to inform our students about the difficulties these people go through. What is more, students and professors can offer greek language lessons. This way people will be able to understand greek and achieve some basic communicational skills. -
All this process will undoubtedly have a positive effect to the community and economy of our town, Kozani. To begin with, residents will get to know a whole new culture with its own customs and traditions, maybe new conseption about life and will cultivate the feeling of respect and compassion. Simultaneously the local economy will rise and manpower will grow stronger.
