My first field trip was to the West Haven Public Library. Once we got there, we got to make our own library passes and top this day I still have mine. I got to engage in some many activities and at that point I knew I liked reading. -
The Fly Guy series was all a memory to take in. I would save up every single cent I could just so I could skip class and go to the book fair so I could buy a new book. And I couldn't forget about those invisible ink pens or those Smencils. -
During my elementary years, I was given a paper to log down books that I read in the summer. After I logged down 8 once, I got a free pizza of my choice from pizza hut! -
I remember this day in class, we were just getting started with class talking about the ICEE English writing format. As we were diving into it, we were advised that our time at school physically had come to an end. We were also told that we had to finish our year online, so we did just that. -
Writing my first essay was very very different. At that time we were using the ICEE format as the backbone to all our writing. I remember the first essay being about a novel called "Bud not Buddy". Although this novel was personal, it still had a personal tone. Now that I look back at my old essays, I try not to shed a tear from crying of laughter and embarrassment. -
So this was a time where we first started analyzing poetic pieces especially from a well know poet, Edgar Allan Poe. Our teacher told us we would have a poetry contest planned and top three would win an award. As we read his pieces and worked on assignments tied to them, I truly believed that I was ready to write a poem. After writing my first poem, I gained a lot of confidence in it because I really believed I "cooked" on it, until I got absolutely demolished with the score on mine 😔. -
Ahh yes, a milestone everyone either wants or dreads. My English class was very very fun. Mrs.Alajjan was teaching the Freshman English Honors. I walked in there only knowing the ICEE format to write anything and I came out of that class with a whole new mindset on essays. WE WROTE SO MUCH ESSAYS, but all in all it really really helped me gain confidence in writing essays because I find them easy now. -
Today I am a Junior taking an AP English Language class, Im a TA for a Freshman English Honors class, I also work on many other things including English. For where I stand now, I grew a love for reading and writing. If I were to tell my younger self that I had grew up from hating reading to doing it in my free time then I would not have even tried listening. Im ready to see how the year goes and I cant wait to add it to this timeline.
