June 28, 1942-January 31, 1943. The advancing German army turned around to capture a large city named Stalingrad. The fighting was really brutal. Germany would conquer a street by day, and the soviets would claim it back by night. The Soviet army carried out a counter defense and trapped the germans in the city. The germans surrendered on January 31st. -

Otherwise known as Operation Overlord, it was an attempt to make the largest and fastest move or men and supplies from Britian to France. It was successful, but with heavy loss from both sides. The Germans were fortified behind the beach and were ready for the landing of the soldiers. -

The last major offensive from the nazis, began on December 16. It was the last attempt the Germans had to stop the allies from conquering Germany. It is actually called The Ardennes Offensive. For the beginning of the battle, the Germans had advanced a great amount, but it had reached a stalemate. the stalemate was broken when the Germans simply couldn't feul their army, The allies took the battle on January 16th, 1945. -

It started on the 14 of feburary and lasted for 36 more days. Part of a plan America had for winning, It consisted of capturing the island. for a strategic purpose. One example was to build air fields. -
