    For over a decade the 727 was the most produced commercial jet airliner in the world. When production ended in 1984 a total of 1,831 aircraft had been produced.

    The 747 can seat 500 passengers although usually holds just inder 400 and is capable of travelling at a speed of 965 kilometres per hour. It has a non-stop range of over 11,500 kilometres making it ideal for package holidays.
    The impact this had was it became possible to fly further in less time making long haul destinations easily accessible. Also, as it could seat many passengers, the price of each seat was reduced which in turn made the holiday chaper.
  • Decline in Holiday camps

    The decline in holiday camps was due to the fact it was verycheap to have package holidays abroad with guaranteed hot weather.

    During the 1970s currency restrictions were lifted. Prior to them being lifted tourists were only alloweed to take £50 in sterling out of the country. This led to an increase in the appeal of package holidays.

    The channel Tunnel first opened in 1994 and meant that people in the UK were able to travel to France without flying or encountering sea sickness. It also encouraged the French to visit the UK which helps the economy as tourists spend money. The final cost of the tunnel was over £10 billion.

    Self-service check-in kiosks first began to be installed about ten years ago in the US and five years ago in the EU, but these were airline specific. Most airports now have self check in areas available to customers as it saves them time and the airline money as they do not have to pay anyone to check customers in.

    Tourist destinations that attract large numbers of tourists often decide to develop in order to remain attractive to tourists wants. For example, they may add a new attraction such as a large water park.
    Dubai has been developed to become a major tourist destination by constructing many hotels and shopping centres. It has become a modern destination for tourists and there are also a number of residential areas available for purchase which will help keep Dubai's economic sustainable.

    The airbus A380 can seat between 555 and 800 passengers and the first airline to fly the plane was Singapore Airlines on an inaugral flight to Sydney in 2007. It was also the first airline to fly the superjumbo to Paris in 2009. These planes make travel cheaper to airlines as they are able to put more customers on one flight rather than several planes.
