    Discovery of America

    Determined to find a trade route to the east by going west, Christopher Columbus landed in the Carribean with a mutinous crew and was credited with the discovery of the Americas although he thought he was jsut off the coast of Africa.

    Treaty of Tordesillas

    An agreement between Spain and Portugal settleing conflicts over newly discovered lands found by Chistopher Columbus and other explorers
  • Sep 30, 1522

    Circumnavigation

    Ferdinand Magellan's men, after three years at sea, were the first to circumnavigate the globe. His ships completed the journey although Magellan died en route.

    Virginia was the first white baby born in America.

    Jamestoen was discovered and settled.

    The Mayflower Compact is the first example of democratic society on the americas

    George Washington is born in Virginia
  • Poor Richard's Almanack

    Poor Richard's Almanack started being published
  • Boston Massacre

    In the event known as the Boston Massacre, five colonists were killed and 9 were wounded when a group of British troops open-fired into a crowd of Bostonians who had been relentlessly taunting and antagonizing the troops.
  • Tea Act

    Was the final spark that lead to the revolutionary movement in Boston. The tea act proposed no new taxes for the colonies. It was designed to prop up the East India Company which had 18 million pounds of unsold tea. The tea was sold at a bargain price. This lead to the Boston Tea party
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and threw 343 chests of tea into the sea to protest the tax on tea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    British war ships sent to block the Boston port, one of the largest ports, so that no trade could be done with the colonies with besides England.
  • Quartering Act

    Colonists were forced to quarter british troops in their houses
  • Shots heard round the world

    There were shots fired during battles at Lexington and Concord which started the Revolutionary War although it was not made official.
  • Bunker Hill

    Located in Charlestown Massachusettes. British suffered heavy losses and lost any hope for a quick victory against the colonies, first battle engaged by the continental army and British troops.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Written by Thomas Jefferson the Declartation of Independence declared independence from from British rule. Discussed the ideas of Natural Law and the Social Contract, inspired by John Locke, and listed grievances against Kind George III.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Lead by General George Washington, American soldiers crossed the Delaware and surprised the Hessians, german missionaries serving for England in the Revolutionary War.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Turrning point of the revolutionary war.
  • Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation, drafted by the second continental congree, was sent to the states in 1777 and ratified in 1779. Although they were mostly a failure, there contributed some positiively.

    The Final Battle of the revolutionary war. the britsh surrender.

  • The Great Compromise

    Said that one house of the legislative branch would be represented by population (House of Representatives) and the other be represented equally (Senate).
  • The Constitution of The United States

    Drafted by James Madison, the current Constitution of the US. Contains a Bill of Rights, which set the initial groundwork for the constitution. Stated the basic rights for all Americans. By adding a Bill of Rights to the Constitution it kept many states from ratifying it.
  • French Revolution

    The monarchy of France fell after three years. The French Revolution was a period of great social and political upheaval. A democratic republic came in place of the monarchy.
