  • Mao Zedong takes control of China

    Mao forces defeated Kuomintang force in January 21, 1949.December 10, 1949 PLA troops laid siege to Chendu and Chiang Kai-shek evacuated from the mainland to Taiwan.
  • Korean War

    Military conflict between the Republic of Korea, supported by the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union. American administrators divided the penisula along the 38th parallel, with U.S. trrops occupying the southern part and Soviet troops occupying the northern part. After Japan had surrendered.
  • Vietnam War

    Was fought between the communist Norht Vietnam, supported by its communist allies, and the government of South Vietnam, supported by the U.S. and other anti- communist nations. The U.S. entered the war to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam as aprt of their wider strategy of containment. The caputure of Saigon by the North Vietnamese army in April 1975 marked the end of the Vietnam War.
  • Sovier Invasion of Hungary

    The plice attacked, and the demonstrator fought back, tearing down symbols of Soviet domintion and HWP rule, sacking the party newspaper's offices and shouting in favor of free electons, national independence, and the return of Imre Nagy to power. Crowds emptied the prisons, freed Cardinal Mindszently, sacked police stations, and summarily hanged some member of the secret police. The Central Committee named Nagy prime minister on October 25 and selected a new Politburo and Secretariat.

The final troop withdrawl started on May 15, 1988 and ended on Febuary 15, 1989 under the last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
