Louisiana Purchase
1.) The Louisiana Purchase was a purchase made from Thomas Jefferson in which he bought the land from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and parts of New Orleans that had doubled the size of the United States from the French government for $15 million. 2.) With this doubling their sizing United States, it was bound for expansion to happen. People wanted to move to this land to start over and also grow not only their families, but also the United States -
Lewis and Clark Expedition
1.) This expedition was meant to find a route from the Missouri to the Rocky Mountains all the way to the Spacific Ocean. However along this journey Lewis and Clark explored the western half of what is now the United States. This expedition showed them the true wonders of the West 2.) Word of this expedition had we've gotten around quickly. Many people became intrigued what's the West after this. Their exploration helped pave to way to western expansion. -
Indian Removal Act
1.) The Indian Removal Act was an act passed during Andrew Jackson's presidency. This act provided money to relocate Native Americans where settlers wanted to move into their territory. Even if Native Americans denied they were still relocated. 2.) In the eyes settlers this allowed them to pretty much settle wherever they wanted to thus creating a sense in urge to expand. This only reinforced the idea of expanding, in which many people would follow. -
Manifest Destiny
1.) Manifest destiny was the belief that the expansion of the United States across the American Tontonents with boasts justified and inevitable. This idea was meant to validate the continental acquisitions in the Oregon country,Texas, New Mexico, and California. 2.) Not only was this just a belief, but many people believed that it was a message from God saying that they needed to expand westward. This only proves that expansion was meant to happen as religion during this time was verily popular -
Oregon Treaty
1.) The Oregon City was a negotiation between Britain and the United States. Many Americans had wanted to settle on organ however it was owned by Britain. This negotiation gave the United States all of Oregon south of 49 degrees north latitude and west of the Rocky Mountains. 2.) This event really shows the Americans will to expand. Nothing was going to stop them from trying to expand where they wanted to go. With this new land they were able to expand even more -
Mexican-American War
1.) The Mexican American War was a fight over the territories that Mexico had but with the expansion westward americans wanted to settle on this land. Ultimately this led to disputes and eventually a war. The United States had won this war. 2.) The Mexican American War had given the United States even more land. This caused expansion westward to grow larger and larger as there was more land to now settle on. -
California Gold Rush
1.) After expanding Westward for quite some time, California struck literal gold. Many people rushed to the West to get their hands on some of this gold. The land also had silver and copper making it a mining dream 2.) Expansion really was going to happen. Especially with people already moving West and finding rich materials, people were intrigued. The California Gold Rush really hurled a lot of people to the West expanding territories in the start of cities and towns there.
