    World War 1

    The murder of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand set off a chain of events that led to war in early August 1914. The murder was traced to a Serbian extremist group that wanted to increase their power in the Balkans by breaking up the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Thethe Entente Powers (France, Russia, the British Empire, Italy and the United State) defeat the Central Powers (German, Austro-Hungarian, Bulgarian and Ottoman Empires). Russia withdrew from the war after the revolution there in 1917.

    Russian Revolution

    The Russian Revolution was a period of political and social change in Russia, starting in 1917. This period saw Russia abolish its monarchy and adopt a socialist form of government following two successive revolutions and a civil war. The peasants and working class people of Russia revolted against the government of Tsar Nicholas II. They were led by Vladimir Lenin and a group of revolutionaries called the Bolsheviks. The new communist government created the country of the Soviet Union.

It took place In Europe, the dividing line between East and West remained essentially frozen during the next decades. But conflict spread to Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

    Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, 1969, at 8:32 AM Central Daylight Time (CDT) with the goal of performing the first human landing on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Aldrin entered lunar orbit on the afternoon of July 19. the first space mission to put people on the Moon. Almost every major aspect of the flight of Apollo 11 was witnessed via television by hundreds of millions of people in nearly every part of the globe.

    Fall of  the Berlin Wall
    The fall of the Berlin Wall was the first step towards German reunification. In 1989, political changes in Eastern Europe and civil unrest in Germany put pressure on the East German government to loosen some of its regulations on travel to West Germany. It was a guarded concrete barrier that encircled West Berlin from 1961 to 1989, separating it from East Berlin and the German Democratic Republic. Construction of the Berlin Wall was commenced by the government of the GDR on 13 August 1961
