Start of WWII
The start of World War II begun with the invasion on September first 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. Just two days later Britain and France had declared war on Germany too. Germany had used a new type of warfare called Blitzkrieg better known as Lightning War. This strategy was more offensive than it was defensive. Was using this strategy by October 5th 1939 germany had defeated the Polish military. This was only the start to World War II. -
Destroyers for Bases
This agreement between the US and the United Kingdom allowed the US to transfer 50 old destroyers to the Royal Navy in exchange for the allowance to British military faces In the areas of Newfoundland and in the Caribbean and these bases were for United States usage in military. This was meant to support the United Kingdom's efforts during World War II by aiding its naval capabilities and giving the United States a strategic output for bases. -
Lend-Lease Act
This act of allowed the United States to sell, loan, or transfer military along with other necessities to any country part of America's defense. Roosevelt introduced this loan to help Great Britain who had run out of money to fight the war and Roosevelt wanting to keep Britain in the war by supplying them with arms or other materials. -
The Atlantic Charter
Was President Roosevelt's and Churchills development of the Atlantic Charter, a Commitment in which both nations wanted a post war world with democracy and non-aggression, free trade, and economic advancements, and the freedom of the Seas. Roosevelt also had made it clear that he would look for an incident that would be justifiable for him to finally join the war. -
Peral Harbor Attack
With an imperial Japanese Navy surprise attack on the military station in Pearl Harbor, this was the final straw for the United States to finally join World War 2. This devastating attack killed and wounded over 3500 American service members and civilians. It also did major damage to the United States Fleet. Soon after this attack Germany and Italy then declared war on the United States, prompted the internment of Japanese German and Italian Americans. -
Hemispheric Defense Zone
With German submarines attacking British Navy although the United States was still neutral, President Roosevelt couldn't offer any support to these British ships. Instead he had declared the western half of the Atlantic as part of the Western Hemisphere which was neutral. He then had the US Navy patrol this area which would then reveal the location of German submarines to the British.
