Importation of Slaves Ends
Economic: South relied heavliy on the importataion of slaves, this clause effectively protect the ecomony in the south by prohibiting international slave trades. Social: A system where slavery was dehumanized. Enslaved people were treated as a person's property, not a human being. Political: This clause overviewed the concerns that had arose in the south states and gave proctecion to their ecomiony, but still saw the worries of those not in favor of slavery. -
The Missouri Compromise/ The Compromise of 1820
Primarily Political: Maintianed the balance power between the states with slave and those with free slaves. This preented the possiblity of an imbalance in the voting powers within sates, such as Maine and Missouri. -
The Wilmot Proviso
Primarily Political: With Proviso's legislative position, he proposed a ban to slavery in areas recived from the Mexican-American War, which casued debates for the North and South. Social: Caused a debate outlining slavery and its expansion with the North and Sourth having very differnt views. Economic: Proviso wanted to protect the opportunies for white labors compared to the unpaid labor slaves provided. -
The Fugitive Slave Act
Political:Created more tension between the North and South states when it came to slavery. Fuled the battle of slavery as some Northerns saw the Act as Southern influence in the Government Social: This act imposed an enviorment of fear for those who were enslalved. Free slaves in the North faced the risk of being kidnnaped to be sold back into the industry. Economic: Showed the stregth in the right for slave owners and their "Property" and impacted slave pricing, which increased in the south. -
The Compromise of 1850
Primarily Political: The Compromise handled the concerns about salvery expansion within the territories and Congress's power between the states with slaves and those who are free. Social: Many social effects, one being the Fugitive Slave Act, which called for the return of escaped slaves. In the North many did not comply casuing social divisons Economic: Affected the overall economy in the Southern states with the shift to free states in favor of power. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Political: This work grew the divide between the North and South states, siding with the northern beilfs of slavery. South states even started to ban the ditribution of the book and creating their own literature that was "Anti-Tom". Social: Showed the harsh reality of slavery and those who have suffered within the industry. Sought after empathy for those who were still enslaved. Changed the views of how Americans saw slavery. -
The Kansas Nebraska Act
Primarily Political: Congresss tried to adress the issue of the expansion of slavery and the grouping of territories. This Act lead to the rise of the Republican Party and cnaceled out the Missouri Compromise, finally distrupting the imablance for free and slave states. Social: With the intensified divide, this lead to the "Bleeding Kansas", a very violent clash for those for and against slavery Economic: Act sought to maintian westward expansion, which slowed the economic development. -

With many illegally for proslavery, a major had risen between the pro and wnti slavery parties. Social: Social division was at its worst and this conflict only brought fear and insecurity. The Caning of Charles Sumner
Primarily Political: Sumner's speech bashed the South and the ideas of slavery stargeting Senator Andrew Butler of South Carolina. In repsonse a South Caroline Represenative beat Sumner with a cane, heightening the tensions for the North and the South Social: this event demonstrated the crucial tensions when it came to America and slavery. Brooks was sought as a symbol of aggression from the north and from the south people saw him as a hero. -
The Dred Scott Decision
Political: This decision declared African Americans with no right and aren't citizens. This questioned the Supreme Court's role in upholding constitutional rights Undermined the Missouri compromise Social: With African Americans left with nothing it showed a systematic racism by refusing fundamental rights to a group of people. Black people lived in fear of being captured. Economic: with no lights slaves were now property meaning slave owners could now develop a slave fueled economy.
