    Also know as operation Just Cause, the Invasion of panama stared on December 20th1989 and went until January 31 1990. The invasion occurred under President George HW Bush, with the goal of deposing Manuel Noriega who was a dictator in Panama. The UN declared the invasion unlawful and the invasion set persistent for the future Torrijos–Carter Treaties which would give panama control over the panama Canal. The invasion cost the US 23 solder deaths and US 3 civilian deaths. 500 panama civs. killed.

    Magic HIV Trouble

    On November 7th 1991 Magic Johnson held a press conference saying that he would retire and he has HIV. He originally said that he did not know how he got HIV but he later admitted to many sexual partners. He was seen as a Hero in sports and even got praise from president George H.W bush. Johnson was also chosen to be on the Olympics dream team in the 1992 summer Olympics in Barcelona. Magic Johnson became an Icon of sports and helped inspire many people with HIV.

    Hurricane Andrew was a category 5 hurricane that hit Louisiana and Florida. The hurricane caused 27 billion dollars in damage and 65 people dead. President George H.W. Bush approved a 11.1 billion dollar relief package for the damage of the Hurricane, which was the biggest disaster relief package at the time. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was highly criticized for its slow response to the hurricane and failure to help the people quicker

    The 1992 La Riots left 63 people dead, 2,283 people injured and 12,111 people arrested. The riots broke out on April 29th of 1992 and went for 6 days. The riots happened because a jury acquitted four officers of the LAPD after they had beat up Rodney King and used excessive force. There beating of Rodney King had been broadcast on TV and deeply angered people. The riots involved thousands of people and caused 1 billion dollars in damage. There was also a lot a damage done to Koreatown in La.

    The North American Free Trade Agreement was made under President Bill Clinton. Opens Up free trade between the U.S, Canada, and Mexico. This allows for stuff and jobs to be Moved around between these countries a lot easier. NAFTA was disliked by many conservatives because it took jobs away from some Americans and harmed Americas Sovereignty.

    On July 7th 1996 Bombs went off in Olympic Park, Atlanta. The blast left 1 person dead and 111 others injured. This was the first of 4 bombings by Eric Rudolph and he later pled guilty and is serving a life sentence. One of the controversies with the bombing is Richard Jewell being falsely suspected of being involved in the Crime. Richard Jewell discovered the bomb and helped move people to safety, but the News said he was a suspect and it git him in trouble. Jewell later tried to sue the media.

    On July 17th 1996, A Trans World Airlines Flight exploded and crashed 12 minutes after takeoff. All 230 people on the plane died, and it is the third deadliest aviation accident in US history. Although a terrorist attack was suspected at first, no evidence of this was found. The explosions probable cause was a short circuit that caused fuel vapors to combust. As a result of this new requirements for airplanes were made stop fuel tanks from exploding. The wreckage was kept by the NTSB until 2021.

    In Santa Fe (San Diego), police discover 39 victims of a huge suicide. They were all found wearing matching outfits and had no signs of blood or trauma. These people found were a part of the Heavens gate religious cult, which said that its followers had to leave there bodies to go onto a spaceship hidden on a comet. After the comets discovery in 1995, the cult was convinced that a spaceship was on it. The members drank a mixture of phenobarbital and vodka to kill themselves.

    NATO airstrikes over Yugoslavia started on March 24th of 1999 and went to June 10th. NATO wanted to end all the bad stuff of the Milosevic government in Yugoslavia. NATO also wanted a peacekeeping force in Kosovo, and Yugoslavia to conform to international law and Join the UN. NATO mostly used Air power and bombed many parts of Yugoslavia.

    The Columbine High School shooting on April 20th 1999 left 15 dead and 24 injured. The shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold committed suicide after murdering and injuring students and teachers. The crime inspired others to commit school shootings. At the time it was the deadly school shooting in America. Sparked many debates over Gun Control laws and students mental health.
