  • Constitution Act of 1982

    This allowed Canada to write its own constitution without the need of approval from British Parliament.

    The Meetch Lake Accord was signed to recognize Quebec as its own individual people and community.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    The fall of the Berlin Wall was when the wall separating West and East-Germany came down, allowing families to reunite along with the entire country.
  • Oka Crisis

    This was a 78 day standoff between Mohawk people and the Canadian government over a proposed golf course and town house expansion onto Mohawk burial grounds and disputed land.
  • G.S.T.

    The G.S.T, or Goods and Services Tax, is designed to add extra cost to most goods and services that are provided within Canada.
  • Desert Storm

    Desert Storm was the operation to help liberate Kuwait after it was invaded by Saddam Hussein. The fight began with a major air assault before being followed by a large scale ground invasion by the US and allied forces.
  • Creation of Nunavut

    The creation of Nunavut was made from the land claims of Indigenous people who had the land previously stolen from them. This process involved dividing the Northwest Territories and creating Nunavut along with its own independent government, allowing the country to reflect their culture.
  • Collapse of the Soviet Union

    The Soviet Union dissolved for a multitude of reasons, one of the main ones being the lack of public trust and high amount of distain towards them. Especially after the Berlin wall finally came down.

    This was signed to give provinces their own independence over forestry, mining, etc.

    This treaty was signed to create a free-trade zone in North America. Supporting Mexico, The United States, and Canada.

    Rwandan Genocide

    The Rwandan Genocide was the mass killing of over 500,000 Tutsi by the hands of Hutu militias. The biggest issue by far being the international community failing to stop the genocide.
  • 1995 Quebec Referendum

    This was when Quebec officials asked prominently French-speaking Canadians if Quebec should become an independent country.
  • Nisga’a Frist Nation Treaty

    This was a treaty that was signed to recognize the Nisga'a Nation as their own government and in turn their ownership of their land and reasources.

    Canada in Afghanistan

    This major Canadian forces deployment was designed to combat terrorism and help support the Afghanistan government back to strength. 40,000 troops were deployed and 158 died along with countless civilians.
  • 9/11

    9/11 was the date of the attacks on the world trade center within the US in New York. The attacks was carried out by the Islamist extremist group Al-Qaeda.
  • Same-Sex Marriage

    This law was signed, approving same-sex couples to marry on the same basis as opposite-sex couples.
  • Residential School Apology

    This was an apology delivered by Prime Minister Steven Harper to acknowledge the governments role in separating indigenous children from their families and forcing them into Residential Schools.
  • Vancouver Olympics

    This was the XXI Olympic Winter games and was infamous for Canada due to the Canadian athletes leading all countries with 14 gold medals, which was the highest gold tally in the Winter Games.
  • Canada and Syrian Refugees

    Canada has helped resettled over 100,000 Syrian Refugees in response to the large scale revolution and protests that were happening within the country at the time.
  • Tragically Hip’s Final Concert

    This was the final concert that was done by the Tragically Hip. The reason for this being the finale was to act as a farewell to their lead singer, Gord Downie, due to his terminal brain cancer.
