    The Ford-McCumber Tariff Act
    Raised American tariffs to protect farmers. he economic effect was that the tariff raised the purchasing power of the farmers by two to three percent, but there was a disparity between the burdens that the other industries imposed on farmers.

    The arrest of Sacco and Vanzetti had coincided with the period of the most intense political repression in American history, the "Red Scare"

  • Food Riots

    "Food riots" begin to break out in parts of the U.S. In Minneapolis, several hundred men and women smash the windows of a grocery market and make off with fruit, canned goods, bacon, and ham.
  • Federal Reserve Contracts Money Supply

    In addition to allowing the Bank panics to reduce the U.S. money supply, the Federal Reserve also deliberately contracted the money supply andraised interest rates in September 1931.

  • Franklin Delanor Roosevelt and the New Deal

    Franklin D Roosevelt was elected president during the depths of the Depression. He introduced a program of government reform called the New Deal. the New Deal created public workshops to help find jobs for the unemployed, new government agencies gave financial aid to businesses and farms, a lot of money was spent of welfare and relief programs.

    Unemployment sky rockets to an unbelievable 25 Percent average for the year.
  • Karl Jensky discovers radio waves in the center of the Milky Way.

    The detection by Karl Jansky of radio waves from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy is reported in the New York Times. The discovery leads to the birth of radio astronomy.
  • Germany Recovers

    Germany's war preparations and Heavy defecit spending finaly pulls Germany out of it's depresion
  • Germany Re-Occupies the Rhineland

    The Rhineland is an area of Germany that borders France. It is of economic importance and militarily is still considered strategically significant.
  • Federal Spending

    FDR asks Congress to authorize $3.75 billion in federal spending to stimulate the sagging economy. Economic indicators respond favorably over the next few months.
  • Kristallnacht- "Night of Broken Glass"

    Nozi mobs attacked Jews and their homes and businesses and destroyed thousands of Jerish-owned buildings. Kristallnacht, or "Night of Broken Glass", signified the real beginning of Hitler's process of eliminationg Jews from the German population.
  • Hitler Renounces the Provisions of the Treaty of Versailles

    Germany violated the treaty by occupying the rest of Czechoslovakia.
  • WW2 starts

    The war in Europe began in September 1939, when Germany, under Chancellor Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland. Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany but took little action over the following months.
  • MAY 10, 1940 France surrenders to Germany

    The Battle of the Coral Sea, fought from 4–8 May 1942, was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II between the Imperial Japanese Navy and Allied naval and air forces from the United States and Australia.
  • Dieppe Raid

    The Canadians had trained for 3 years and then they had to go to the raid and it was a disaster. They had no protection so the german artillery had already wiped a lot of them out already. This was important because it was the firsy major defeat for them.
  • Japanese attack on Pear Harbor

    The Japanese attacked on Pear Harbor on December 7th 1942.Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander of the Japanese Combined Fleet, had initiated planning for a surprise attack on the United States Pacific Fleet at the beginning of any hostilities that the Japanese might undertake
  • Allies Liberate Paris

    The allies liberate Paris on August 4th 1944.After four years under German occupation, Paris is now free.
  • FDR Dies,Truman becomes president

    President Franklin Delano Roosevelt died on Aril 10th, 1945. Right after he died on the same day Harry Truman became president.
  • Hiroshima bombing

    The U.S dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Between 70,000 and 80,000 died almost immediatly.
  • WW2 Ends

    The carnage of World War II was unprecedented and brought the world closest to the term “total warfare.” On average 27,000 people were killed each day between September 1, 1939, until the formal surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945.
