John Tyndall was born into a poor irish family. He had just basic education and worked as a surveyor in Ireland and England. From the years of 1839-47, then his ambitions turned to science. Tyndall then saved to study at the University of Marburg, Germany (1848-1850), and received his Ph.D.

1853 Tyndall became a professor at the Royal Institution, London. At this time is when Tyndall became friends with other physicist and chemist. This is when Tyndall begain his experiments in atmospheric physics.
