  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 was passed because the British feared wars with Indians because it would cause British war debt to increase. This action also helped the British have greater control over the colonies actions while being able to regulate trade with the Indians. The Proclamation of 1763 made the territory west of the Apalachin Mountains only available to Native Americans. Even after the Proclamation colonists still settled westward affecting treaties between the British and Indian tribes.
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was passed because of the large amount of sugar and molasses being smuggled into the colonies causing the British potential profit for the reconstruction of its army. The Sugar Act put taxes on goods like molasses and sugar. The colonist response to the Sugar Act consisted of people boycotting and protesting that taxes should not have to be paid without their representation.
  • Currency Act

    The Currency Act was passed to prevent issues in trade by changing the colony's money into British currency making it easier for British merchants to exchange for goods as colonial currency was worth less previously creating issues with transactions. The Currency Act prevented the colonies from printing and using their money and forced the colonies to use the British currency. The colonies responded to the Currency Act by protesting which created tension between the colonists and the British.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed to obtain money from the colonies by placing taxes on the colonies for the British military after the French and Indian Wars. The Stamp Act put taxes on any printed material going from playing cards and dice all the way to wills, newspapers, and licenses. The colonist response to the Stamp Act dealt with debt collector statues being burned and even debt collectors homes getting attacked. These actions were made to publicly show the colonies anger towards the Stamp Act.
  • Quartering Act 1765

    The Quartering Act of 1765 was passed because of Great Britain's low amounts of money causing British soldiers to stay in colonial homes and demand supplies so that the British armies could still fight without the need of large amounts of money. The Quartering Act of 1765 forced colonials to give housing and supplies to British soldiers. The colonists did not agree with this act as it was a form of taxation without representation as the colonists' goods were taken without their agreement.
  • The Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act was passed to prove that the British Parliament had control over the colonies and to prove that the repeal of the Stamp Act was not a show of weakness. The Declaratory Act was made to show the British Parliament had legislative control over the colonies no matter what it was. The colonies responded with worry as this act showed that the colonies were under the rule of the British and not themselves.
  • Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act was passed so that the British Parliament could have funds to control the colonies while also showing the power that they held over the colonies. The Townshend Act places a set of taxes on things like glass, paint and tea. The colonist response to the Townshend Act consisted of colonists protesting about them being taxed without being represented and the colonists boycotting British goods causing a decline in British trade.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre occurred because colonists attacked the British soldiers who came to impose the tax on the colonists leading to the British soldiers to shoot at the crowd of colonists. In the Boston Massacre 5 colonists were killed and multiple others got wounded. Colonist response to the Boston Massacre consisted of anger-filled propaganda as it presented the British as the aggressors leading more colonists to boycott British goods.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party occurred because the East Indian company had control over tea trade giving it the ability to sell its tea for less while also evading the colonists taxes causing the irritation of other merchants.The Boston Tea Party consisted of Indian dressed colonists throwing 342 British chests of tea into the Boston Harbor as retaliation against the British tax. The colonists' saw the Boston Tea Party as protesting against taxation without representation leading to a greater separation.

    Intolerable Acts (Coercive Act)

    The Intolerable Acts were a response to the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Port Act closed the Boston Harbor. The Massachusetts Government Act gave more rule to the British government over the colonist government. The Administration of Justice Act gave British officials the choice to be tried in Great Britain. The Quartering Act forced colonists to provide shelter and supplies to British soldiers. These Acts lead to protesting because they gave higher control to the British over the colonist rule.

    The Quartering Acts 1774 was passed to lower the amount of money that was needed to supply and maintain the British army in the colonies. The Quartering Act of 1774 let soldiers use private homes and buildings as their shelter. The colonists were angered by this Act as it broke the colonists basic rights to property, liberty, and privacy. This act caused multiple colonists to disney the British soldiers entry and created lots of protests against the act.
  • Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act was passed so that the British could have more control over land while creating a good connection with the Quebec population. The Quebec Act created a system that let Quebec citizens follow French law while also implementing parts of British law into their legal system. The colonists responded with anger as this was an attempt to hold more control by taking land that was claimed by the colonists and turning it to land they could have complete control over.
