  • Germany takes over France and "Low Countries"

    Hitler begins his quest of invading all the "Low Countries." France gives up and appears weak as it hands it self over by signing a armistace with Hitler and Germany.
  • Public Persecution of Jews by Nazis Begins

    On this day the Nazi Party ordered all jews to wear a yellow star to identify them. The Jews were beginning to be heavily persecuted and the first death camps and mass massacres began being implemented. Later on January 20th, 1942, "The Final Solution" was delivered by the Nazis, calling for the extermination of the Jews from East to West, the 11 million in Europe. This would ultimately be the Holocaust.
  • Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor

    This surprise military attack on Hawaii's Pearl Harbor was conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The Japanese Navy attacked the US naval base at Pearl harbor by ship, fighterjets, and submarines.. Many died and this ultimately fueled the deciscion to join the war, a day later , and to drop the A-bombs.

    This is a turning point in the war. It came in the Pacific during the June, 1942 at the Battle of Midway, In a four day battle fought between the U.S. and Japan. the US destroyed hundreds of Japanese planes and regained control of the Pacific. This was a decisive victory for the US.
  • Soviets win the Battle of Stalingrad as Hitler's forces falter

    Germans surrender at the Battle of Stalingrad in the first big defeat of Hitler's armies. The battle started on August 23, 1942 and lasted until February 2nd, 1943 This battle was very deadly and did not come easy for the Soviets. Total casualties for both peaked to 2 miliion. This was the beginning of the end for Germany.
  • D-Day

    Also known as the Normandy landings, D-Day was the American operatioon, named Operation Neptune and Overload, to overtake the axis forces on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. There were many phases to this operation and it ultimately ended in a decisive allies victory. it is one of the biggest invasions by water.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    The US fought Japan on the island of Iwo Jima. It ended on March 26, 1945. The US captured the Japanese island of Iwo Jima and were victorious. From this battle is where we got the famous picture of soldiers rasing the US flag in ruble on and island.
  • Adolf Hitler is Dead

    Adolf Hitler and His wife Eva Braun are found dead. There is big controvesy of how he died It is unsure what really happened, but many witnesses say that he committed suicide with his wife Eva Braun. Also they both took poisonous cyanide tablets and Adolf took a gunshot to the head. Ultimately both were cremated. Hitler committed suicide to prevent from being captured and humiliated by the soviet troops.
  • The first atomic bomb dropped on Japan

    Harry S. Truman, after taking over from the death of FDR, orders to drop two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. The first being on August 6 and the second 3 days later. The effects were devastating. Death tolls were in the tens and hundreds thousand in a matter of days and effects are still noticeable and signifigant today. This shut down WWII
