Japanese had an episode of mass murder and mass rape, This was committed by Imperial Japanese troops against residents of Nanjing. In December 1937, they started to murder disarm combatants. -

Germany started WWII by invading Poland. On September 1, 1939 Britain and France responded by wanting war on Germany. A month goes by and Poland was defeated by German and Soviet forces. -

Nazi Germany attacked Poland in September 1939. Soon enough the Germans attacked France. The France army didn't last long and the Germans defeated. The government departed Paris on June 10. The the germans occupied the city on June 14. -

Hitler began Operation Barbarossa which was the invasion of Russia. The code name for the invasion of the soviet union. the operation started June 22. The Nazi German's ideological goal of conquering was to repopulate. -
PEARL HARBOR
Hundreds of planes in the morning descended on the base. They managed to destroy or damaged 20 American naval vessels.Eight battleships and over 300 planes. 2400 or more Americans died in the attack. This includes civilians and another 1,000 were wounded. After the assault Franklin D asked congress to declare war on Japan. -
BATTLE OF MIDWAY
This battle was after the huge attack on Pearl Harbor. This battle was to remove the United States as a Pacific Power. Then Japan would gain territory in East Asia and southeast Pacific islands.The US was aware Japan was planning to attack. Aircraft from four Japanese aircraft attacked and was severely damaged. The United States carrier forcers were to the East of the Island. The Japanese headed back to rearm and refuel. The USS hornet and Yorktown attacked the Japanese fleet. -
WARSAW GHETTO UPRISING
After the German invasion of Poland more than 400,000 Jews in Warsaw capital city were confined to an area of the city that was more thane one square mile. The Jewish ghetto was blocked by walls in November 1949. Barbed wire and guards, when someone was caught leaving they got caught. Nazis controlled the food bought to the Ghetto. Which means thousands were killed each month from disease and starvation. -
D-DAY (HORNADY INVASION)
January 1944, Eisenhower appointed commander of operation overlord. Although, there was a weather delay. They attacked the day later. At the end of the day, more than 5,000 ships and troops across the Chanel to France. More than 11,000 aircraft were mobilized to cover and support for invasion. -
OPERATION THUNDERCLAP
The operation thunderclap was a plan to bomb Berlin. This would cause many casualties. They planned on Bombing, but in the end they didn't bomb they thought to destroy many Eastern German cities.. -
BATTLE OF IWO JIMA
The marines struggled while Japanese lied in wait. Americans assumed the pre-attack. That was effective. The enemy's defenses on islands. They had a lack of response but that was apart of Kuribayashi's plan. The Americans struggled which got a foothold on the beaches. Days later 70,000 US marines landed on Iwo Jima. They outnumbered Japanese enemies. Americans were wounded or killed within five weeks. 25,000 causalities and 7,000 deaths. -
LIBERATION OF CONCENTRATION CAMPS
In April 1945. the 7th army's 45th infantry division librates Dachau. This was the first concentration camp which which was established by Germany's nazi regime. The sub camp was liberated same day of the 42nd rainbow division. -
BATTLE OF OKINAWA
Battle of Okinawa was the last major battle of WWII it was April 1,1945 June 22,1945. On Easter, the navy's fleet and more than 180,000 US army, marine troops descended on Pacific island. Which helped because it was the final push towards Japan. The war was ending, American troops landed on Okinawa.The Americans were still painstakingly conquering Home islands from japan. The fifth fleet suffered 36 sunk ships, 368 damaged ships, 4600 men killed. 4800 men wounded and 763 lost aircraft. -
VE DAY
On May 8, 1945 Great Britain and the US celebrate victory. They rejoice the defeated Nazi war machine during WWII. On May 8, the day spelled where German troops throughout Europe. They laid down arms. The germans surrendered to the soviet antagonist, Germans tried to mass explode to the West when fighting the Czechosiovakia. While 13000 British pows were released snd were sent back to Britain. -
DROPPING OF THE ATMOIC BOMB
The discovery of nuclear physicists were in a lab in Germany. It was the first atomic bomb.First, they used atomic bomb during WWII for the Manhattan project. This started in response to fears that german scientists been working since the 1930s. The first atomic bomb was successful in 1945, this created an enormous cloud about 40,000 feet high. The US dropped the 1st bomb over Hiroshima, Japan. This exploded 13 kilotons of force. Five square miles and killing 80,000 people instantly. -
VJ DAY
The Japanese surrendered on August 14, 1945. This ended WWII, August 14 and 15 have been known as Victory over Japan day. Also known as September 2, when Japan surrender took aboard the U.S.S Missouri. Rhode island is the only state that dedicates the day to VJ day. Then the 2nd Monday of August the US Seymour, Indiana, Moosup, Connecticut, and Kansas celebrates VJ. -
BATTLE OF THE BULGE
This battle was close to D-day. The soldiers couldn't sleep because they could freeze. the soldiers didn't have the right equipment to keep warm. Winston called this war the greatest American battle of the war. The Bulge was in the Ardennes region of Belgium was Hitler's major offensive. When Christmas came the weather cleared up, and this allowed the allies air force to strike.
