The United States carrier forcers were to the East of the Island. The Japanese headed back to rearm and refuel. The USS hornet and Yorktown attacked the Japanese fleet.

They outnumbered Japanese enemies. Americans were wounded or killed within five weeks. 25,000 causalities and 7,000 deaths.

Which helped because it was the final push towards Japan. The war was ending, American troops landed on Okinawa.The Americans were still painstakingly conquering Home islands from japan. The fifth fleet suffered 36 sunk ships, 368 damaged ships, 4600 men killed. 4800 men wounded and 763 lost aircraft.

Then the 2nd Monday of August the US Seymour, Indiana, Moosup, Connecticut, and Kansas celebrates VJ.
