    Kristallnacht - Germany's "Night of Broken Glass"

    Over 17,000 Jews were arrested - despite living in Germany for decades with citizenship (Polish/German). On this date labelled the "Night of Broken Glass" gangs and angry groups of people beat up, assaulted and arrested "as many Jews as their jails could hold". The Nazis allowed as much destruction as necessary, they wanted as many Jews as they could find to suffer. 3 days later rules were put in place specifically for Jews. This included a curfew, banned ownership of guns and more.

    Opening of Auschiwitz Concentration Camp

    The Auschiwitz Camp is the largest of all the Nazi Extermination/Death camps. This camp had 3 zones, the prisoners camp, an extermination camp and a labour camp. Between 1.1 and 1.5 million people died in the Auschiwitz camp, at least 90% of this population being Jews. Later in 1941 and onward Auschiwitz II and III were developed with similar intent. Young children and women were sent to gas chambers, the more capable were sent to labour. Some were injected with radiation, and many starved.

    Bombing of Pearl Harbor

    The 177 aircraft of the Japanese Navy attacked the United States on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The bomb was dropped to destroy as much of their Naval fleet as possible, so it couldn't respond to war requests or battles. The bomb was dropped on the U.S Naval base and as the bomb was dropped immediately hit four battleships. Over 1000 people were almost immediately killed, and over the next few hours the number reached over 2000. 188 air-crafts were destroyed and 21 warships sank or were damaged.

    Fall of Singapore

    At the start of WW2, Australia deployed majority of its forces to assist Britain in Europe. 2 battleships were sunk on the North of Singapore, leaving its naval forces very weak. The Imperial Japanese army had fought and captured almost a kilometre of peninsula in under 2 months. There were bombings and more than a million citizens were trapped, including over 15000 Australian soldiers. The result of the Fall of Singapore lead Australian authorities to reconsider the alliance with Britain.

    Bombing of Darwin

    Australia was under attack for the first time when Japanese planes bombed Darwin. This attack was lead by the same people responsible for the bombing of Pearl Harbour. The first attack lasted about 40 minutes, and the second around 25. Around 250 people were killed and 300-400 were wounded. Eight ships were sunk and twenty military air-crafts were destroyed. Occasional attacks continued until late 1943, with a total of 64 bombing attacks.

    Liberation of Nazi Concentration camps

    Soviet forces liberated the a concentration camp in 1945, of which was the largest killing centre. They liberated many other concentration camps as well, including camps throughout Poland. They found 10's of thousands of men's suits, women's garments and an unsettling amount of human hair. British and American forces also liberated multiple concentration camps throughout 1944-1945

    Nuremberg Trials

    After the war, Top ranked German and Nazi leaders were tried for Nazi Germany's crimes, particularly the holocaust. The trials were held for 199 defendants, and this resulted in 37 being sentenced to death and 161 convicted. Apparently, the highest ranked Nazi authority wasn't present at the trials, This was Hitler, as he'd committed suicide in the last days of the war. Some committed suicide after their execution was announced.

    The reason for Hitlers suicide is always being speculated, and nobody really knows why. However, there are many different theories. Adolf and his wife both were assumed to have swallowed cyanide pills, and then he also shot himself for good measure. He was told by officers that the Russians were on their way, and he chose suicide over the risk of escaping through thousands of soldiers.

    Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    The immediate deaths of the bombing in Hiroshima included over 70,000 people, and totalled to over 100,000 with after affects and sickness. The bombing in Nagasaki resulted in around 40,000 deaths overall. The effects of the atomic bombs are still evident almost a century later.
