  • A serbian terrosrit assassinates Austrian Archduke Francais Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of the Austro-HUngarian empire

    US newspapers carried shocking news of a secret offer made by Germany to mexico. German foregin minister Zimmermann, propsed that Mexcio ally itself witih Germany in return for Germay's pledge to help Mexicio revover lost territories.
    The telegram aroused the nationalist anger of the American people and convinced Wilson that Germany fully expected war with United States.

    This barrier to U.S participation was removed.
