  • Joint Stock Companies

    Joint Stock Companies
    Joint stock companies were like the start of investing and modern economies. High-wealth investors would give money to companies at a risk to hopefully yield a return, colonies were a relatively new thing to invest in but it came with the high risks that the colony would fail and they would lose their money, they also were very expensive.   • First Successful Colony From England

    First Successful Colony From England
    This was one of the first more successful colonies in America. Although the start of this was a bit rocky they managed to start farming and eventually become one of the largest tobacco exporters in the world. https://www.ushistory.org/us/index.asp
  • The Royal Proclamation of 1763

    The Royal Proclamation of 1763
    The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was an act that was supposed to stop American colonists from settling on the land lost/given to the French in the French and Indian war. This obviously made many colonists upset considering it was supposed to be the new free world and many Americans had already begun to settle west of the Appalachia leading to even more conflict. https://www.ushistory.org/us/index.asp

    Melting Pot
    When America was being created and revolutionized, it became a melting pot. Even in the early times of the colonies, only about 2/3 of the country was white. Many were African, French, Mexican, Spaniard, etc.

  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    After the intolerable acts committed by the British toward Americans, such as Quartering Act, many colonists were upset and felt as though their voice was not heard in their own country. In 1774 Delegates from each colony connected in Philidelphia to converse about their problems with British Parliament, they eventually decided to boycott British goods and if their overseers did not change for the better they would reconnect and meet in May of 1775. https://www.ushistory.org/us/index.asp

    On July 4th, 1776, the declaration of independence was first shown/read. This was the colonies removing themselves fromBritians control which would lead to where we are today in our country.
  • Federalism

    Federalism
    Federalism is a type of government popularized in the US when ratifying the constitution. Federalists believed that a proper government should have individual states governing themselves while also having a main union governing them above that to help prevent anyone from having too much power on their own.

    In 1787, after months of deliberations in Philidelphia, the Constitution was signed by the delegates that were deliberating. This constitution would be the original layout for the United States government.

    The War of 1812 consisted of American Armies and militias against the British once more and their Native allies. This war was very controversial and the declaration of war barely passed leading to conflict and discontent within the country's states and government.

    Louisiana Purchase
    France previously occupied the Louisiana territory and was threatening to cut off Americans from using the critical trade route from New Orleans along the Mississippi River. Thomas Jefferson sent a diplomat to France and the territory was bought for 15 million dollars.

  • Abolitionists

    Abolitionists
    An abolitionist is someone who wants to put an end to an institution or practice which in this case was slavery. Many Americans began to realize the grim reality of slavery and aimed to put an end to it.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The trail of tears was the systematic removal of Native Americans from the land they occupied. Started by Andrew Jackson, force was used and even federal troops were called in to help.

  • Nullification Crisis

    Nullification Crisis
    The nullification crisis was a problem between the state of South Carolina and the federal government. Tariffs had been placed on certain goods and North Caroline saw this as a line crossed and federal troops had to be called in to settle the dispute.

  • Underground Railroad

    Underground Railroad
    The underground railroad helped slaves escape from their owners and during the night with the help of abolitionists and many "conductors", they would be led to states that they could be free. This movement was for the most part started and led by Harriet Tubman, a former slave herself.

  • Manifest Destiny

    Manifest Destiny
    This is the idea that god had sent Americans out west and it was their destiny to expand. This belief was religiously driven but also had many Christian Missionaries trying to get Natives to worship gid.

    Americans invaded Mexico and the war was started in 1846. The war would carry on for two years and end in 1848 with the States acquiring the new territories of California, New Mexico, and Texas.

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    The Kansas Nebraska act was to now let popular sovereignty decide whether or not slavery would be allowed. This was huge because it could potentially add another slave state which would then lead to there being more than non-slave states.

    Reconstruction
    The reconstruction period is a time after the civil war where the country was being rebuilt after the terrible civil war. Thus also came with the troubles of politics and reintegration of the south.

  • Assassination of Lincoln

    Assassination of Lincoln
    After Rober E. Lee's surrender, lincoln would soon be murdered. While attending a show at Ford's Theatre, John Wilkes Booth would sneak into Lincoln's booth and shoot him with a pistol, and flee the scene. Booth was later found and arrested.

  • First Impeachment

    First Impeachment
    Andrew Johnson was the first president to be impeached. After trying to get rid of his secretary of war, congress came to him with 9 articles to impeach him but the vote came back in his favor and he would serve his full term.
