200,000 workers and their families protested the czars winter palace because they wanted job reforms but Nicholas order soldiers to open fire on the unarmed crowd which resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. This sparked a wave of strikes so the Czar approved the Duma(parliament) for more freedom but then got rid of it after 10 weeks because he wanted all the power.

Russia entered WW1 where 4 million soldiers were killed, wounded, or captured and the czar was blamed for the defeat and food shortage. Czarina was left in charge but she made bad decisions and trusted in Rasputin which made people more mad.

Nicholas lost control of the people and his soldiers and was forced to abdicate his throne. Him and his family were taken to a prison in the Winter Palace.
