Brown V. Board of Education
When the supreme court ruled that racial segregation in the public school system was unconstitutional. -
Elementray and Secondary Education Act( ESEA)
This helped to provide Federal Funding to help improve education in the schools, as well as providing more for the students with disabilities or special needs. -
Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens (PARC) v. Commonwealth of Pennslyvania
Court decided that the students with disabilities had the right to a free public education. -
Mills V. Board of Education of the District of Columbia
This helped strenthen the rights for free and appropriate public education for students with disabilities in the school system. -
Education for All Handicaped Childeren Act (EAHCA)
This made it so that public schools are required to provide indivdualized education programs ( IEPS) and services to students with disabilities. -
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
This act prohibited any discrimination towards indivduals with disabilies in all areas of public life , such as the public schools . -
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
This act replaced EACHA and put a higher emphasized indivudualized education plans (IEPs) and parental involvment. -
No Child left Behind Act (NCLB)
This act required schools to assess all students, including those with disabilities, to insure acountability. -
Every Student Succedes Act (ESSA)
This act replaced NCLB and was able to give more flexability to the states while keeping a important focus on students with disabilities. -
Supreme Court Decision: Endrew F, V. Douglas County School District
This act Strengthened the standards that were set for IEPs, which required the schools to provide more meaningful methods to increase the progress made for students with disabilities.
