  • The Chinese Civil War

    The Chinese Civil War
    The Chinese War lasted from 1927 to 1950 between the communists and nationalists of China. Mao Zedong was the communist leader and Chiang Kai-Shek was the nationalist leader. The War began because of conflict of beliefs, should the country be nationalist or communist. The winner of the Chinese Civil war was the communists, led by Mao Zedong. In the end, the Communist Party of China took over every nationalist state and town. sources:

  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    The dates Feb 4, 1945 – Feb 11, 1945 were the specific days the Yalta Conference was held. The Conference was held in Crimea, Yalta, the main leaders were Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin. They met early in the year in regards of Germany in the early stages of the war calming down. The leaders had came to an agreement to need Germany's surrender.   • The Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was created in 1948 to help economically assist Europe rebuild after the war. The Marshall Plan supplied Europe with over 15 Billion dollars, helping them rebuild homes, cities and means of transportation. The President, Harry Truman, signed the Marshall plan on April 3rd and they send help to sixteen European nations. In 1952, the last year of the Marshall plan, the economic growth in the countries surpassed pre-war levels. sources:

  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    1949-Present Day.
    NATO stands for The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, it was created in order to send a military to protect and fight for another country, NATO was dormant until the Korean war. Most of the world has joined NATO, the only countries not in NATO are Sweden, Austria, Cyprus, Finland, Ireland and Malta. Formerly known as the Soviet Union, Russia joined NATO in 1994. sources:

  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War was fought between North and South Korea. North Korea was Communist and South Korea was Capitalistic, The USA supported south Korea and the Soviet Union supported the North. The war began when North Korea invaded South Korea. Technically, the war has not ended, there was no treaty signed but the fighting has stopped since the start of the war in 1950.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam war was fought between North and South Vietnam, a clash of communistic and capitalistic ideals. The US supported South Vietnam and The Soviet Union supported North Vietnam. The outcome of the war was in favor of the Soviet Union once more. All of Vietnam became communistic.
  • Space Race

    Space Race
    1955-1975, the dates that helped advance technology around the world. Once the Soviet Union released Sputnik, the first ever satellite, the US had fear that the Soviet Union was 'taking over space' after the release of sputnik in 1957 the US began on it's first ever rocket prototype. In 1969, Apollo 11 was launched into space and landed on the moon. After the creation of Apollo 11, there were six more apollo missions by the end of 1972.

  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    On May 14, 1955 the Warsaw Pact was created. The Warsaw Pact was 'Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance". The Warsaw Pact was formed six years after NATO was established. The Warsaw Pact was a much smaller group than NATO, consisting of the Soviet Union, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania. In 1991, the Warsaw Pact was dissolved as each country pulled away, leaving the Soviet Union disbanding the Pact in may of 1991.

    The Berlin Wall Crisis/Berlin Airlift
    1961-1983
    The Berlin Wall was built by the Soviet Union in an attempt to separate the communistic and democratic parts of Berlin. The US gained small parts of east Berlin at the Yalta conference. When the Soviet Union created the wall, the US was determined to continue supplying Berlin with materials to continue living, creating the Berlin Airlift plan. Everyday for eleven months the US flew in with small fighter planes with small packages for the people of Berlin. sources:

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    Oct 16, 1962 – Oct 28, 1962, thirteen days of one of the most tense and stressful times of our nation. The Cuban Missile crisis was when the US and Soviet Union went head to head in a military standoff. In regards to the Soviet Union's installment of nuclear weapons on Cuba's land. The main issue with this move by the Soviet Union is that the US was a small ninety-miles away from Cuba, if something went wrong, it could effect a large part of the USA.
