    After Germany surrendered the four main allies, United States, France, Britain, and the Soviet Union, as an effort to stabilize Germany after World War II and persecute Nazi soldiers decided to divide Germany between the four countries as well as Berlin which resulted in conflict.

    Following the Berlin Blockade, Truman and the allies decided to resist Stalin's demands.     History-Red Scare
    Although the communist threat was real, during his campaign he was known to take advantage of the communism threat among the people to gain political success. He often claimed to have a list of American communist party members in the U.S. State Department, planning to bring down the United States. He held trials persecuting potential communists, ultimately leaving him a reputation referred to as McCarthyism.

    NHCThe emergence of the civil rights movement is known to have escalated through court decisions like Brown vs. Board in 1954 regarding segregated education, the Montgomery bus boycott, and the arrest of Rosa Parks. However, the movement encompassed various events as early as the 1919-1960s, having the most recognized impact after the war, during JFK presidency and under the leadership of Martin Luther King Jr.

    Korean Conflict
    After World War II, Korea was a divided. Soviet governed North Korea was communist and America governed South Korea was anticommunist. This created a volatile situation and North Korea attacked South Korea. In fear of another invasion and the spread of communism from the Soviets, Truman enforced containment and sent the United Nations troops into Korea.

    Members of the treaty, Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria, were expected to come to any one of the other member’s aid when attacked by an outside force. There is also a unified military command specifically for the Soviet Union.

    The Soviets had won the space race by launching the first satellite into space. Sputnik was a rocket powered satellite which meant that it could have a potential threat to become a space based weapon.

    The Soul of the Superpower LectureFidel Castro overthrew the government in Cuba and with a track of human right violations however cooperated with anticommunism. Feeling threatened by Soviet Union interference, as a strategy to stop Fidel Castro, Kennedy had the CIA train Cuban exiles as commanders with weapon tactics and sent them as an invasion force in Bay of Pigs, eventually building a counter revolution against Fidel Castro. They desperately failed.

    The election between John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon was the first televised debate. There were allegations of voter fraud, major escalation to move full involvement in Korean War, Fidel Castro, nuclear weapon treaties, environment damage, and race issues.

    Fidel Castro accepted the Soviet Union’s offer to construct missiles in Cuba to use against the U.S. However U.S. surveillance caught sight construction and Kennedy televised a warning for Soviet Union troops and America sent naval forces to inspect cargo going into Cuba. During 13 days of stand- off Cuba agreed to dismantle weapons and the U.S. would not invade Cuba.

    The Soul of a Superpower LectureIn Southeast Asia the Gulf of Tonkin incident occurred between South Vietnam being Anticommunist and North Vietnam being communist. A civil war was taking place in Vietnam. President Johnson was afraid communism would escalate from North Vietnam so U.S. Troops got involved, fighting not to lose in order to calibrate North Vietnam and help South Vietnam resist falling into communism.

    America takes the lead in the space race with the Soviet Union by landing the first man on the moon. During President Nixon presidency, millions of Americans watched the two American astronauts walk on the moon through their television monitors.
