  • Mao Zedong takes control of china

    On October 20, Mao accepted election as chairman. He went against all land owners, and everyone who opposed him. He was a totalitarian ruler. This was the beginning of the Republic of China.

  • Korean War

    The war was between the communist North Korea and the anti-communist South Korea. The U.S. and the Soviet Union also helped in the war.

  • Vietnam War

    The war ended on April 30 1975. It was between North Vietnam (with help from other communists) and the government of South Vietnam ( with help from the U.S. and other anti-communists).

  • Soviet Invasion of Hungary

    The Soviet Union was already in Hungary during their revolution. They took them over while the revolution was going on.

  • Fidel Castro takes over Cuba

    Fidel Castro came into office because of the Cuban Revolution. He then became the First Secratary of the communist party of Cuba. He turned Cuba into a one-party socailist republic. In 1976, he became the President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers. He also held the top rank in the Cuban armed forces.

  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    An attempt by CIA-trained force of Cubans, with help from the U.S., to overthrow Fidel Castro.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The U.S. had very strong Nuclear Missiles and the Soviet Union tried to build ones that could stand up against the United States. The U.S. demanded they stop the construction of them right away.

  • Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia

    The invasion ended on September 20, 1968, They invaded Czechoslovakia to halt the Prague Springs political liberalization reforms. They stopped the reforms and made the communist party of Czechoslovakia much stronger.

  • Salt Treaty Talks

    The Salt Treaty are two treaties between the U.S. and the Soviet Union for armament control (arms race)

  • Nixon Visits China

    When he got there, Nixon almost immediately met with Chairman Mao. This was there the only meeting they ever had.

  • Revolution in Iran

    It was a revolution against westernization. There were way too many protestors to arrest.
