Sectionalism - Part 2
The South believed that states should make decisions and the North believed that the National governments should make all decisions. These are all reasons that caused tension between the North and the South. The South was not willing to compromise because they believed that they were right. -

Sectionalism
Sectionalism is when a person is more loyal to the part of the country that they live in, as opposed to the entire country. The North hired people to work in factories and the South relied on enslaved people to work on plantations to grow their crops. This shows why the South supported slavery, while the North did not. -
The compromise of 1850
California enters as a free state and would upset the balance of slave and free states. The settlers living in the territory to decide if there was going to be slavery or not. The slave trade was banned in washington DC. The Fugitive Slave Act was passed which meant the people had to report if they found and runaway enslaved person. This caused tension between the North and South because the North was unhappy that slavery would continue and the South was happy that slavery could continue. -
Kansas Nebraska Act 1854
What to do with new territories that they wanted to become state Nebraska territory would be divided into two territories people in the territories would be able to pick if they wanted slavery or not try to. Kansas ended the Missouri compromise because slavery could not happen. -
The Battle Of Fort Sumter 1861
In the Battle of Fort Sumter the South fires on the North as the South fires on the North the South Winds the battle because of this cause it was the first battle of the Civil War. From the north Lincoln calls for volunteers to join the Army the north doesn't believe that the South has the right to secede. As for the South Four more states succeed and leave the union.
