The Mexican American War was the cause for the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty gave U.S. about 55% of Mexico's land, that land was turned into some states that we have today like, California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico for 15 million dollars. This Treaty was important because it stopped the fighting happening on the borders and people trying to steal land.

The California Gold Rush caused a lot of people who were wanting to seek out their fortune and were struggling to start a future to all move out to California. This caused California to become a very populated area and new cities and factories were becoming built really fast due to the raise of the population.

The United States bought 29,670 square miles of land from Mexico for around 10 million dollars. This land was used to be now southern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. This land was purchased so that U.S. could build a transactional railroad to go across the south like the north had to connect the east coast to the west coast.

In 1867 the United States signed a deal with Russia to get the land chunk known today as Alaska for 7.2 million dollars. When the United States made this deal it was originally mocked for a useless land purchase being separated by Canada but was later proved to be worth it with the discovery of gold.
