Just before the end of the civil war, the Freedmen's Bureau was established. It was established to defend emancipated slaves from the transition of a slave to a free man. It helped them have natural rights, be able to live a normal life, and allowed them to be treated as normal human beings. -
On April 14, 1865, our 16th President was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Andrew Jackson became President after Lincoln's assassination. -
The Thirteenth Amendment made having slaves illegal. Slavery was abolished once this passed as a new law. It was actually adopted as a part of the Constitution. -
The Civil Rights act gave free rights to African Americans. Meaning they had the rights to access the same transportation, restaurants, and the same public places as white people did. It let them life as normal human beings. -
It was a secret organization based in the South. The original goal of the Ku Klux Klan was to oppose the Reconstruction policies of the radical Republican Congress and to keep their "white rights". They were basically a group of racist people who hated the fact that they had to shared freedom with colored people. -
Congress passed the 'Military Reconstruction Acts' because they wanted to punish the South. In doing so they divided the South's military districts and visualized the new way the government was going to work. -
The reason for Johnson's Impeachment is because he was accountable for high crimes and misdemeanors. He was very dunce president. His mistake was removing Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. He violated the Tenure of Office Act. He was the first president to be impeached. -
While he was president, he was marked by a series of scandals. Reason why is because many in bis administration were crooks who took from the government which gave him a bad reputation. Even with that being said, he fought for African and American rights. He pushed for the approval of the 15th amendment and signed a bill that approved people who had African descent to become U.S. citizens. -
The Fourteenth Amendment gave everyone equal rights. This includes slaves who were recently freed after the civil war. Everyone was now 'equal' and able to live normally. -
The 15th Amendment gave the right to all men, colored and white, to have the right to vote. This changed the U.S. with more opinions for runners in office. -
The purpose for 'Reconstruction' was to involve the South again. The south had cause a ruckus when slaves were given rights which caused them to separate from the Union. This whole thing was basically a forgive and forget moment in history. The have Unity once again.
