Slavery
Slavery consisted of millions of African Americans being forced out of their homes to work in the US for free. This mainly benefited the South. The North was not happy because this didn't help them at all. They were also mad that innocent people were working for free. This made tension between the North and South because they both wanted different things. -
Missouri compromise
The Missouri Compromise was to the North's advantage. Maine joined as a free state, and Missouri joined as a slave state. The US also made a 36 30 line, which helped slavery not spread. This made the South mad because they wanted slavery to spread, and the North happy because they didn't want slavery to spread. -
Dred scott
The North was upset because Dred Scott was still ruled to be islaved. The court was unfair when justifying the Dred Scott case by not using biased information from the Constitution. -
John Brown
John Brown was an abolitionist who led an uprising. He murdered murder lots of people and due to this he was accused of a crime and hanged. The North was Furious with the Court's decision and unhappy due to the result. The southerners were happy because they wanted slavery to spread, and John Brown was not helping their cause. -
The election
The election started in 1860, and Lincoln won. The North was happy for this win as this would help them try and end slavory. This division of the North and South was a big cause of the Civil War.
