  • Piglet's Big Game

Piglet's Big Game was the perfect introduction to basic game controls for a small child, and of the three computer games that we owned on disk, it was the one I played the most. There were a lot of creative opportunities in the game, including painting with Eeyore and mixing the big soup at the end. Piglet's Big Game [Desktop]. (2003). Disney Interactive Studios, et al.
  • Combat of Giants Series

At my primary school, the library had Nintendo DS's that you could borrow during lunch break. The games included the Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs. I would create my dinosaur and level it up, before returning the DS, forgetting which one I used, and repeating the process next time. It was the first game I played with character creation and I enjoyed trying out all the different options. Ubisoft Quebec. (2011). Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs [Nintendo 3DS]. Ubisoft.
  • Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

My parents already owned a Playstation 2, two guitar controllers and the drum kit controller. My siblings (an older brother and two younger sisters) had a go at the game and were understandably terrible because we were very young. Despite this, the games instilled in me a love of rhythm games and classic rock music. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock [Multi-Platform]. (2007). RedOctane.
  • Minecraft

Since I first got the game, I have not stopped playing Minecraft, and I have never defeated the Ender Dragon. One of the joys of a game like Minecraft is the many different ways to play. I enjoy creating an organised home base, one of my sisters likes to mine and gather loads of resources, and my other sister loves to decorate. We can all work together and it is a great bonding opportunity and creative outlet. Minecraft [Multi-Platform]. (2011). Mojang Studios.
  • The Sims 4

I spend most of my time in character creation in The Sims 4, and it is interesting how fun a game can be when it includes so many aspects of real life. The main downside of this game is the massive overuse of in-game purchases. Maxis, et al. (2014). The Sims 4 [Multi-Platform]. Electronic Arts (EA Games).
  • Beat Saber

I mostly play video games casually, to enjoy the writing, aesthetics, and mechanics. Beat Saber was the first skill-based game I played and was immediately good at. It's a rhythm game like Guitar Hero, but I found it more intuitive and immersive. The game has been a jumping board for me to try games that I would have thought would be too difficult, such as Little Big Planet 3. Beat Saber [VR/Multi-Platform]. (2018). Beat Games.
  • Uncharted Series

My Dad and I were both sick one week, so we had to stay home. He took the opportunity to start playing the Uncharted series, which he bought months earlier. I was bored, so I went to sit with him and ended up playing too. I helped with the puzzles and he did all the combat because it stressed me out. Even when I wasn't playing, I found joy in talking and watching him play. Naughty Dog, Bend Studio, et al. (2007-2022). Uncharted Series [Playstation, Desktop]. Sony Interactive Entertainment.
  • The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe

Before I ever played The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, I watched my favourite YouTubers play it. I was worried that because of that, I wouldn't be able to properly enjoy it. Luckily, the game has so many endings that I still find ones I've missed or forgotten. It is also fun to play with a small group of friends because I love to see how they play and share the game with them. The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe [Playstation, Desktop]. (2022). Crows Crows Crows.
