North Korean soldiers crossed the 38th parallel starting the war which made America fear that Communism would spread so they fought back to the Chinese border. Then Russia came and fought to the 38th parallel and it was stalemate. -
Ruby Bridges at school
The court wanted desegregation in schools and Ruby Bridges accepts it and goes to William Franz elementary school. The school doesn't want to teach her but one teacher named Barbara Henry wanted to teach and taught Ruby. -
Cuban missile crisis
The Cuban missile crisis happened during October/22/1962 and November/20/1962. The Cuban leader was communist and their name was Fidel Castro. America was scared because they discovered that the Soviet Union was supplying Cuba with missiles and they were on launch sites. America blockaded Cuba and they were about to have a nuclear war when Khrushchev sent a message to America stating that they were sending missiles back to the Soviet Union which made Castro mad but prevented a nuclear war. -
John F. Kennedy assasination
A man named Lee Harvey Oswald killed John F Kennedy to show his love for the Soviet Union. Oswald killed John F Kennedy in Texas as Kennedy turned the corner of Texas School Book Depository by shooting him.. -
Nixon resigns
At 9:00pm on Thursday, Nixon resigned in the White house due to pressure of impeachment and General Ford was the new president. He would have been impeached because of a crime called the Watergate scandal that included 48 men. -
Mt saint helens
Mt. St. Helens, located in the cascade region of southwest Washington, erupts on May 18, 1980 and kills 57 people and obliterated 210 square miles of wilderness. Rising magma from previous eruptions caused fissures that made a big bulge in the side of the mountain. A 5.1 earthquake then caused a landslide and then the eruption came with heat of over 600 degrees F at 300 miles per hour making mudflows and floods over the valley. -
Challenger explosion
The purpose of the challenger was to send a teacher into space to teach students. The people were Christa McAuliffe who was the teacher, Francis (Dick) Scobee, Michael Smith, Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, and Gregory Jarvis who tried helping McAuliffe get to space on the challenger. Severe cold came to Florida 2 O-Rubber lost resiliency which caused flame to escape to the tank and the spaceship exploded. -
Berlin wall taken down.
The Khrushchev didn't like West Berlin so they built a wall around West Berlin. East Berlin people were tired of the wall being up for 28 years (1961-1989) so the came to the wall shouting "Open the Gate" which pressured the guards so they let them go to West Berlin and the people were welcomed.
