Larry Laudon was born in 1941 in Austin, Texas.

In 1961 he earned his BA in physics from the University of Kansas. He then went on to study philosophy, eventually receiving his masters. Finally, he attended Princeton where he would earn a PHD.

In 1969 Larry Laudan took the position of associate professor of philosophy and history of science at the University of pittsburg.

In 1977 Larry Laudan wrote one of his most influential books "Progress and it Problems. In this book he states "I propose that the rationality and progressiveness of a theory are most closely linked-not with its confirmation or its falsification-but rather with its problem solving effectiveness."

In his book "A confutation of Convergent Realism" Larry explains his idea that many past scientific discoveries were successful without being true at all. While some discoveries are actually truthful or very close to the truth with little practical application.
