    I remember my teacher reading the abc's out loud to the class, and making everyone in the class repeat after her.

    During 1st to 2nd grade I remember moving on to chapter books like Magic Tree House and feeling excited that I could finish longer stories on my own.
  • 3rd-4th Grade

    During this period I began writing my own short stories in class for various assignments, often about things I liked doing or funny made up characters.
  • 5th Grade

    During this period of time I began reading book series like diary of a wimpy kid, I survived, and the who was book series.
  • 6-7th Grade

    6-7th Grade

    During this time I began reading different fantasy novels like the Last Kids Alive. At the same time, my writing shifted from simpler stories to longer essays, with paragraphs and evidence.
  • 8th Grade

    8th Grade

    I began reading class novels like The Outsiders and historical. Writing my first real analytical essays with introductions, body paragraphs and body paragraphs, and conclusions. I learned about thesis statements and supporting evidence.
  • 9-10th Grade, High School English

    9-10th Grade, High School English

    Reading in harder classics like The Great Gatsby. Practiced annotating texts and writing more polished essays. I started to see literature as a way to explore bigger themes like the American dream.
  • 11th grade

    Now In reading and writing became more complicated. Writing essays that explore themes such as nature, imagination and different romantic elements. My annotations have become more detailed, and now I am able to connect books to history, culture and personal experiences.
