History of atoms

  • 492 BCE

    Democritus

    Democritus
Democritus was born in Abdera, Trance. He is also the student of Leucippus. Democritus Believed that that things could break down into small pieces. His model was a sphere.
  • Dalton

    Dalton
Dalton first job was a teacher at the age of 12. Dalton's theory is that elements are made of same particles called atoms. He also said atoms cannot be destroyed. Dalton had simular model as Democritus, solid sphere.
1 All matter is made up of atoms
2 Atoms can't be created or destroyed.
3 All atoms of the same element are the same
4 Compounds are a combo of 2 or more diff atoms
  • Thomson

    Thomson
Thomson won a Nobel prize in 1906. Thomson use the cathode ray experiment. The cathode ray experiment is to see what the atom,s partials were. The Plum Pudding model was a positively charged mass filled with negatively charged partials.
  • Rutherford

    Rutherford
Rutherford is the father of nuclear physics. He shot alpha particles through a sheet trying to see what would happen, and Rutherford found out that there is a solid mass in the center later known as the nucleus. Rutherford model is the Planetary Model. The Planetary Model show the positive center and the negative surrounding particles.
  • Moseley

    Moseley
Moseley contributed to he discovery of the atomic number . He also studied under Rutherford. Moseley used x rays to discover the number to find how many proton/neutron/electrons. Also helped create the periodic table.
  • Bohr

    Bohr
Not only did he help find out how the atom looks, Bohr also helped out with quantum physics. His main discovery in atomic structure is the first good model of the atom until to date..
  • Pauli

    Pauli
He discovered that no 2 electrons can exist in the same quantum state.
  • Schrodinger

    Schrodinger
Schrodinger won a Nobel prize. He found out the electrons exists in a cloud around the atom. in order to find the clouds he used a equations to see how it would interact with atom.
  • Heisenberg

    Heisenberg
Heisenberg found that there is a lot more to atoms that we know about . its mostly where electrons are located in an atom
  • Chadwick

    Chadwick
He discovered the existence of neutrons and that they had no charge at all. This meant that there was no electrical barrier to go through when trying to achieve atomic disintegration. This subsequently changed how the model of an atom would look like, and also allowed for atomic bombs to be made because of the presence of neutrons.
