1917-Smith - Hughes Act
The Smith-Hughes act provided federal aid to states for uses of promoting the vocational education in agriculture. Smith and Hughes created an act that better the life for everyone across the globe that was being fed/clothed by the American Farmer. -
1925
Virginia tech agricultural teachers Harry Groseclose, Harry Sanders, Walter S. Newman, and Edmund C. Magill created the FFV, which stands for Future Farmers of Virginia for boys that were in Agriculture class. This organization served as the reference for the Future Farmers of America. -
1926
The first ever National Congress of Vocational Agriculture Students attend a National Livestock Judging contest at American Royal Livestock and Horse show in Kansas City. -
1928
The Future Farmers of America is made in Kansas city, the same year the First National convention is held in Kansas city. Leaslie Applegate is then elected as the first national FFA president. -
1929
National blue and corn gold are adopted as FFA colors, a man from Arkansas named Carlton Patton is named the first Star Farmer of America. -
1930
The Official FFA Creed, that is written by E.M. Tiffany, is adopted. The first National Public speaking event is held. The first official dress is also adopted as well. -
1933
The blue corduroy jacket is adopted as part of the official dress. -
1935
New Farmers of America is founded in Alaska, and active members in FFA exceeds 100,000. -
1937
during nation convention they took the first step in establishing a national FFA camp and leadership training school in D.C. -
1942/44
During world war 2 thousands of FFA members assisted in aiding in the war. -
1950
A bill was passed that granted FFA a federal charter and specified that a U.S. Department of Education staff member be the national FFA advisor. The bill was signed on August 30th. -
1952
The first National Future Farmer magazine was published. -
1953
A special stamp made by the U.S. Post Office Department was issued in celebration of the 25th anniversary of FFA. -
1965
The NFA combines with FFA, this increases FFA membership by over 50,000. -
1969
FFA opens membership to females. -
1971
The National FFA Alumni Association is established, the same year the BOAC program begins. -
1982
The very first female, Jan Eberly, becomes the first female national FFA president. -
1988
The Future Farmers of America changes its name to the National FFA Organization to reflect the growing diversity in agriculture. -
1994
The first African-American, Corey Flournoy, is elected to be the National FFA president. -
1999
The National FFA Convention is held in Louisville Ky for the very first time, 46,918 attend. -
2006
The National FFA Foundation announces its first 1 million dollar contribution from the Ford Motor Company, the 79th National FFA Convention is held at Indianapolis for the first time, with 54,589 attending. -
2017
Alters to the Official Dress get made, the very first African-American female, Breanna Holbert, is elected as national FFA president.
