Agricultural Revolution
There was a point in time known as the agricultural revolution. This is when humans stopped hunting and gathering and began to plant and maintain crops for food. -
Industrial Revolution
The revolution that put the work out of human hands and into mechanical grasp. The industrial revolution brought us into an era of easy living as everything is made better, faster, and cheaper. -

He was the founder of the Sierra club. He also has a hiking trail named after him the "John Muir Trail". -

American, poet, writer, and a cunning linguist, Henry David Thoreau is the author of the book "Walden". He also wrote the essay "Civil Disobedience" -
Homestead Act
The Homestead Acts of 1860-1862 was a that applicants could be given land west of the Mississippi for free. Around 10% of the entire area of the U.S. was given for free for homesteads. There were over 1.6 homesteaders. -
Yellowstone National Park founded
In 1872 Yellowstone National Park (Y.N.P.) was founded by U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. It was the first national park in the U.S. and some even claim it was the first in the world. -
American Forestry Association Founded
The American Forestry Association (A.F.A.) was founded for the purpose of protecting and restoring forests. -

The park spans 404,064 acres and contains the highest mountain in mainland U.S. -

Theodore Roosevelt was a very conservative president. He created the United States Forestry Service (USFS) and used his power to make new laws that protected, land, and animals. -
First National Wildlife Refuge is established
The National Wildlife Refuge Foundations creates these refuges for any wildlife, fish, and plants to be safe from human intervention. -
U.S. Forestry Service founded
Administers all 154 of the nation's wildlife preserves and 20 of the national grasslands, has many branches, a few include "The National Forest System", "State and Private Forestry", and "Research and Development". -

Was chief of the USFS from 1905-1910 and is know for reforming the management and and development of the forests and reserves of the U.S. -
Aldo Leopold
Wrote the book "A Sand County Almanac" and had a view of environmental ethics which was the explanation for his movements. -
Audubon society founded
The Audubon society is a non-profit organization that's main priority is conservation. -
Antiquities Act
A law that was passed that said the president could erect a national monument in any public lands. -

Congress got so upset with Roosevelt was waving so much forest land so they banned further withdrawals. -

Meant to preserve and maintain the integrity of the parks within its authority. -
