In 1945 the west was concerned about a successful nuclear test in the Soviet Union. America has always had an upper hand in nuclear bomb power but was surpassed by the Soviet union so they started to make new and improved nuclear bombs to stay ahead of the Soviet Union.

In 1948 the U.S and Britain proposed a new currency that caused an economic crash in the Soviet Union. The Soviets responded by blocking all road, rail and canal links between West Germany and West Berlin. Berlin was running out of supplies so they decided to receive their supplies by air.

After Communist East Germany and democratic West Germany formed in 1949 many tens of thousands of people left their homes and crossed the border into west Berlin. People crossed from east to west Berlin in search for a free life and a better job.

On June 25, 1950, the Korean War began when 75,000 soldiers from North Korea crossed the border into south Korea. North Korea invaded because they want to unite the country under a communist government.

At the end of ww2 France wanted to reestablish its former colonial control over Southeast Asia. in Vietnam communist rebels rebelled against France that forced France to give up hold of Vietnam.

During the arms race the Soviet Union decided to surpass America even more by launching the very first artificial satellite. In response to the launch of sputnik America established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1958.

Rebels under rule of Fidel Castro overthrew Cuba’s dictator to instate a communist government. Castro then made plans about their economy and ties with the Soviet Union.

On October 14th 1962 a spy plane while flying over Cuba found a nuclear missile site being constructed. The U.S was very concerned because the missile could've reached the U.S. President John F. Kennedy discussed the issue with the Soviet Union and came to an agreement to put away their missiles.

A parade was held in 1986 showing off Soviet military power. Thousands of Soviets showed up in the crowd cheering for their country.
