    The Marshall Plan was an American initiative passed in 1948 to aid Europe. The United States gave over 12 million dollars in economic assistance to rebuild Europe.
  • Forming of NATO

    Forming of NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, and several European states. NATO was peaceful military alliance between nations. NATO allowed a massive planning of ways to aid Western Europe in rebuilding their countries.

    The Warsaw Pact was treaty signed in Warsaw between Poland,the Soviet Union, and seven other states. The pact was established to balance power.

    The Sputnik Crisis was a period of time that caused U.S. citizens stress of the difference in technological advances between America and Soviet Union. The Sputnik was the world's first artificial satellite.

    The Berlin Wall was a barrier built to divide East Germany from West Germany. The idea was to keep fascist from entering East Germany changing socialist ideals. Eastern citizens crossed the border in order to get on the west side where citizens had freedom.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis also known as the October Crisis of 1962 was a thirteen-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union about the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet Missiles in Cuba. War was avoided when U.S. agreed to not attack Cuba if missiles were removed.
  • SALT l

    SALT l
    1968 Nixon started the negotiation known as Strategic Arms Limitations Talk a.k.a SALT l. Talks led to the agreement of limiting the number of nuclear weapons. SALT l led to them making of Anti-Ballistic-Missile (ABM). The treaty meant one side would launch a first strike and then prevent the other from retaliating by shooting down incoming missiles.

    SALT ll
    The second meeting was held in late 1972. SALT ll resulted in arms control between Soviet and the U.S. There was limited total of nuclear weapons each nation could have. The treaty was signed June 18, 1979.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    The fall of the Berlin Wall was a symbol of repression towards the Soviet Union. Citizens were no longer waiting for freedom. Protesting was going rapid across Eastern Europe, eventually states began to declare themselves independent.
