President Truman had an Ultimatum that was issued to use against Japan and Japan rejected the Ultimatum.The Ultimative would cause Japan to surrender or face prompt and utter distruction.This happened because the Allies wanted Germans to be given the oppertunity to prepare for the eventful reconstruction of their life on a Democratic and peaceful basis. -

Korean War
The North Korean Communist Army crossed the 38th parallel and invaded the non - Communist South Korea. South Korea was invaded because Syngman Rhee boasted that he was going to attack North Korea. Syngamon’s boasting was a good enough reason for North Korea to launch their invasion first.(Korean War) -
Vietnam War
Vietnam was split into 2 parts. North Vietnam wanted to reunite under communism.South Vietnam faught to keep Vietnam from uniting as one again.This sparked war.The United States helped South Vietnam.In the end North Vietnam won the war and Vietnam was united as one again.( Vietnam War) -
Suez Crisis
The Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser , had nationalized the Suez Canal.The Canal had been owned by the Suez Canal Company , which was controlled by the French.The Suez Crisis was provoked by an American and British decision to not finance Egypts construction of the Aswan High Dam as they promised.Nasser reacted to the American and British decision by declaring martial law in the Canal zone and seizing control of the Suez Canal Company.(Suez Crisis) -

The Soviet Union launched a Satellite that frighented and shocked Ameicans. The Union wanted to intensify the arms race and raise cold war tensions. President Eisenhower responded by speeding up the U.S space program which resulted in a Satellite explore launch this led to the space race between the U.S and Soviet Union.(Space Race/Sputnik”) -
Berlin Wall
Khrushchev delivered a speech demanding the western powers of the United States , Great Britian , and France to pull their forces out of West Berlin within six months. West Berlin was under the Western Control. This sparked a 3 year crisis over the future city of Berlin that cultimnated in 1961 with the building of the Berlin Wall. ( Berlin Wall ) -
Cuban Missile Crisis
There was a 13 day political and military stand - off , just 90 miles from U.S shores. The stand-off happened because of an installation of nuclear - armed Soviet Missiles in Cuba.To end the stand-off , Soviet’s leader Nikita offered to remove the Cuban Missiles in exchange for the U.S promising not to Invade Cuba. The offer was accepted and President Kennedy secretly removes U.S missiles in Turkey.(Cuban Missile Crisis) -

Gorbachev launched a glastnost following his introduction of Perestrokia , a program aimed at reconstructing the Soviet’s economic and political policy.He believed that the path to economic recovery for the Soviet Union required the inclusion of ordinary citizens in the political process.Then fundamental changes to the political strutchure of the Soviet Union occurred: The power of the communist party was reduced and multicandidate elections took place. -

Warsaw Pact
The Soviet Union and Eastern Europe created and Alliance and put weapons and troops in Western Europe. They wanted to create a strong defensive Alliance in response to NATO conntrolling the east.This also caused nationalism and hostility against the Soviet Union. The Warsaw Pact was the response to NATO.They wanted to have a strong East like NATO was strong in the west (“Warsaw Pact”).
