East Germany soviet's divide Berlin by building the Berlin Wall. It was to seperate East and West and keep the Western Europeans out. -

The United States discovered the existence of Soviet missile installations in Cuba which sparked a major confrontation beteen the Soviet Union and United States. We feared if they attacked, millions of lives could be lost. -

The Berlin Wall fell when communism and the Soviet Union began to weaken. One year later East and West Germany were reunited. -

George H.W. Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev sign the Strategic Arms Reduction treaty, disarming additional nuclear weapons. The Soviet Unions breaks into independent republics, which causes the Cold War to finally end.
