    Quebec's Padlock Law
    -The Padlock law was an act to protect the province from communistic propaganda.
    -The law prohibited the right of freedom of speech to individuals.
    -The act also denied anyone to propagate communism or bolshevism aswell as publish or print papers or documents.
    -The federal government could have used its powers of disallowance and reservation to stop the Padlock Law.

    Gouzenko Affair testimony finally released-Gouzenko was assigned to the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa in 1943.
    -He offered the Canadian Government secret documents exposing information on the Soviet Spies.
    -He and his family were about to be sent back to Russia.
    -Canadian officials got involved and he was given protection.
    -This is a picture of Gouzenko wearing a hood to protect his new identity.

    Berlin Airlift-In 1948 the Soviet Union Broke an agreement with its former allies.
    -They attempted to force the allies to give up their established rights to occupy the western part of the former German capital of Berlin.
    -They attempted to physically block all supply lines to West Berlin.
    -the blockade failed because the allies organized an aircraft to provide the food and its supplies to Berlin residents that needed it.

    -The United States supports south Korea.
    -Canada ranked third in total aid to south Korea (1953).
    Over 1000 Canadians were wounded, and 406 were killed.
    (1955) Canadians were asked to stay in Korea until (1955) to help maintain the uneasy truce.

    -Lester Pearson Canada's secretary state for external affairs found a solution.
    -The solution was to have an immediate end to all shooting and creation of a specific UN peacekeeping force to monitor the withdrawal of invading forces and to patrol the border areas.

    -In the Vietnam war the men with the draft card would have to stay and fight in the military and burning your draft card was illegal.
    -Some Americans would desert their land and come to settle in Canada.

    -Norad stands for North American Aerospace Defense (in colorado)
    -Canada let the US to build several installations in the Northwest Territories to create the Distant Early Warning system or also known as the (DEW).
    The DEW line can pick up enemy missiles and aircraft from 4800km away.

    -The soviets constructed a missile site on cuba, and missiles could be accurately launched to hit any major city in North America.
    -So the US president forced a naval blockade around the island to stop Soviet ships from delivering missiles.
    -In the en the soviet ships turned back before reaching the blockade and the threat of war.

    The fall of the Berlin Wall-East Germany's hard-line communist leadeership was forced from power in October 1989 during the democratization that went through eastern Europe.
    -On November 9 east German government opened the country's borders with West Germany including Berlin.
    -The openings were made in the Berlin Wall through which East Germans could travel freely through to the west.
    -The wall then ceased to function as a political barrier between East and West Germany.
