Back in kindergarten I used to trace the letters of the alphabet in order to learn how to write them properly. This was my real first experience of proper writing. -
I remember in second grade I was reading a book with my reading group and saw a swear word (damn). I got up and told my teacher. This was my first time reading a book with more advanced vocabulary. -
In third grade we were learning about natural disasters. I chose tsunamis and I had to draw pictures with each page. This was my first ever research project. -
In fourth grade the whole class had to listen to our teacher read The Wizard of Oz. This was extremely boring in the moment. Looking back on it now it was a lot of fun and I wish I took those moments more seriously. The book was actually pretty good. -
In sixth grade we had a summer reading assignment. I decided to not read it and within the first week of school my teacher told us to talk with a group about the book. I was clueless and once she realized many of us didn't read the book, she gave us more time in class to read it. I learned my lesson... -
I remember being really confused about MLA formatting. I also hated writing so much just for one paper. I now look back on it being thankful for doing it because without it I think I would have failed 9th grade. -
In 8th grade I was introduced to narrative writing. I found this part of the class very fun and enjoyed writing. I remember we had a narrative project and I wrote about a made up person in his perspective named Todd. It was based on the movie "Dodgeball". This helped me become a more creative writer and a better writer. -
I hated this book in 9th grade. I did not understand it and then I had to do a project on it. I wrote a summary of the book and also made a book cover for it. This made me realize I won't enjoy every book I read, but I can still use it to improve certain qualities of my reading/writing. -
This was one of my last essays in Mrs. Plumey's class. I got a 100% on it and was very surprised. I enjoyed writing about history, so it was easy to write the essay. Getting a 100% really showed me how much I improved from the beginning to the end of the year. Plumey's class helped me a lot with grammar and the overall formatting for essays.
