    The Great Chicago fire happened in 1871 during the gilded age when everything was made by wood. There was a big drought and very bad pollution at the time. When the fire started in a barn it quickly spread to over 1,000 acres of land and killed about 300 people.

    The Panama Canal was opened in August 15, 1913. It connected the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean. it has platforms that the boats go on and it would let in water to go up and let out water to go down. In total it would take about 8-10 hours to go through the Panama Canal.
